Groundbreaking ceremonies for Countryside Marketplace took place today, kicking off construction of the 735,000-square-foot shopping center located on the corner of Newport Rd and Haun Rd.

Speaking at the ceremony was Riverside County 3rd District Supervisor Jeff Stone as well as Jeff Chambers, vice president development for Donahue Schriber Realty Group (DSRG), the company that's developing the 68-acre parcel.

Jeff Chambers noted to those in attendance, "Every step of the development process is a collaborative effort. We could not have gotten to this point without the dedication of those who share our vision for what this center will mean to the community."

Countryside Marketplace is expected to provide approximately 6,500 construction and permanent jobs for the Menifee Valley.

Chambers continued on by saying, "One of the recurring themes we heard from residents was their desire to have convenient dining options as a part of the center. We are pleased to announce that Countryside will be home to BJ's Restaurant, T.G.I. Friday's, Red Robin, In-N-Out, Chick-fil-a and Starbucks, among others."

The first tenants at Countryside Marketplace are expected to open in October 2008. Pre-leasing at the center has secured tenants for more than 90 percent of the space, but space from 1,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet is still available. Interested retailers can contact Wally Limburg or Nelson Wheeler with Strategic Retail Advisors at (949) 640-6678.

  1. Any word of their being a Pizza Hut built in Menifee?

  2. "Countryside Marketplace is expected to provide approximately 6,500 construction and permanent jobs for the Menifee Valley."

How many "permanent" jobs after the construction is complete?

  3. Sophisticated Shopping and Dining will appeal to sophisticated and discerning people. This will bring land values and tax revenues up to support the Menifee Community. Lower-end retailers, tends to bring area values down, and additional problems that surface with these types of retailers. Do we want just another strip mall with the same old stores, with the same old dining experiences? Tax Incentives must be used to attract High-End Business like, Trades Joes, Henry Market, Costco, and Edwards Cinemas all of which would fit nicely within the Country-Market Place theme. What are the plans for the property to the south west the Marketplace? A Mall would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Is there any chance that a Polly Pies or Homre Town Buffet will be here?.

    ReplyDelete
  5. We need high end retail to really take our community to the next level. All the fast food is nice but can we get a PF Changs or King Fish House? It would really add to the atmosphere of Menifee. What is the chance we can get a Dave and Busters or some type of family entertainment eatery?

    ReplyDelete
  6. we need something like the Block of Orange, Tustin Market Place or the Irvine Spectrum. What a waste to have a huge parkinglot. Walking space, places to stroll, sit and chat, enjoy the scenery. We don't need another place to drive to. Listen up retailers....IRVINE SPECTRUM THE BLOCK....that's what we need.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I totally agree with the previous posters! We need something more upscale. A Bristol Farms or Trader Joes would be nice. Also some upscale places to eat with fresh food and great atmosphere. Maybe a boutique childrens store or Florist. How many dry cleaners and nail salons do we really need? Are we only concerned with Pizza Hut and Red Lobster? No wonder so many kids are obese around here! "Trashy" stores will be "Trashy" people.
Something similar to Irvine Spectrum or the Block would be great! Bring up our property value!

  8. I joined the L.A. Fitness that is now being built in Lake Elsinore today. The sales person explained to me that an L.A. Fitness is being built at Newport Road and the 215 FWY in Menifee. She was uncertain as to whether is was going to be in the Countryside Marketplace but said it would be opening in the latter part of 2008. It is suppose to be a primo facility... This is great news for residents!!!!

A good energy always comes with L.A. Fitness!!!! Memberships are being sold in the Home Depot parking Lot in Lake Elsinore and cost $89 for mrmbership (up to 3 family members) then $29 a month with no set limit on a contractual agreement for years. You can quit whenever you want with no penalties. This is a great deal as my first L.A. Fitness membership cost me over $300 just to join. Just and FYI!!!

  9. Dave and Busters would be nice, also an upscale Sports Bar would be nice. I have lived in the area 4 years now, it is time something nice is being built so close. Definately need to build it with an atmosphere catered to this area.

  10. Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that contractors started pouring the foundation for the new SuperTarget last week?

    Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It is safe to assume that when the Super Target opens up on the west side of the 215 that the Target on the east side will close. What will replace it? My idea? A bowling alley!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Countryside Marketplace's opening will jump start the housing market in Menifee. Think about it, hundreds (if not thousands) of jobs opening up in an area with abundant new housing. Those that are trying to sell may have to bite the bullet for most of 2008 but come fall there will be people looking to move here.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've heard from a reliable source that a craft store (either Joann or Michaels) has been in negotiations with Target to take over at least part of that building.

As for a bowling alley, I guess it isn't out of the question, but once upon a time we had a bowling alley in the area. It was in Sun City on McCall just east of Encanto. It went belly-up many years ago and it was converted to a storage place.

Personally, I like the idea of a movie theater better. Traditionally, theaters slope downward, with the back rows being at "floor level" and the front rows being dug in. But with the current trend in "stadium" seating, a theater would fit in that building.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, I noticed the concrete foundation of one the pads this week.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I saw the pad too. The Target trailer is right in front of it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Will there be a bank or ATM's easily available in the marketplace?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Its about time menifee is finally getting some restaurants! Lived here for 12 years and we are tired of driving to Temecula. Please No Hometown buffet or Pollys, we are under 80 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with the "No hometown buffet" Maybe a nice sportsbar would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Please Hometown Buffet!!! Would love it to come to Menifee. It's a great place when you have kids.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Home prices will definitly be affected with the development of this new center. For all those upside down on the Home values the new center may be a blessing.

  21. It's about time. It will be a
great area. I know the traffic
will be worst but it will be worth
    it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Come on, you can't be serious about wanting a Hometown Buffet! "Lets all go to a dirty restaurant with no waiters, where we line up for sub par food thats heated by lamps!" Mmmmmm sounds great! If this area really wants to be "up and coming" and we really want to salvage our home values we need some better stores and restaurants. I agree completely with a trader joe's, movie theatre, maybe macaroni grill, CPK, or how about a citrus city grille? Please, NO BOWLING ALLEY. Nothing says drunken white trash like a bowling alley.

    ReplyDelete
  23. These comments are HILARIOUS! I totally agree with the last comment. There are so many of us "30 somethings" that moved out this way from OC to be able to buy a nice house and raise our families. Having an upscale shopping center would most definitely raise our property values and attract the kind of prospective neighbors that we would want to have. Adding another strip mall with sub par eateries and shops is only going to make this area only slightly better than certain other cities up the frwy a bit. To tell you the truth I'm tired of the "909" stereotype. Do we really want to perpetuate that?

    ReplyDelete
  24. No Home Town Buffet I am so excited to watch Menifee grow. You want to feel good when you go shopping and the Crossroads will make it happen. I want the Movie Theater, Fun restraunts, great stores. Bring the Coast to Menifee.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can we please get a PF Changs and a Trader Joes!

    ReplyDelete
  26. how about a yard house or a nice steak house

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes! A movie theater and a PF Changs!! And Trader Joes. How about Pier One? Or The Alley! And Menifee definitely needs a JoAnns or Michaels. (preferrably JoAnns!) Isn't there supposed to be an Abe's Steakhouse put in at the corner of Bradley and Newport? That sign that says "coming soon" has been there for at least 2 years! One other thing that would do well here is a Sonic. The closest one is in Anaheim. True it is fast food, but it is good!

  28. Nordstroms Rack .......

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anyone know when any of this stuff is going to be open (roughly)??

    ReplyDelete
  30. September 2008, is when it is supposed to open.

    ReplyDelete
  31. When the shopping plaza finally opens, unless you live on the west side of the 215, leave early so you can be there for lunch, either that or put a mono rail up across the 215 and park by Ralphs. Should be a days adventure, with the anticipated traffic it will generate.

    ReplyDelete
  32. who cares about the traffic. The plaza will bring the city money to make it nicer around here.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We would love to have a MOVIE THEATRE, MACARONI & GRILL, & JO-AN' S OR MICHAEL'S!

    ReplyDelete
  34. No Hometown Buffet!!! Subpar food thats over priced. A Buca di Beppo restaurant is what this area needs. There is nothing in the area like it.Family fun!! A movie theater would be great as well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wrote (email) to the shopping center developers over a week ago and asked for a current list of tenants but they haven't responded. I also think it would be nice of them to build a parking lot and some grandstands across Haun Rd so we could sit and be "sidewalk supervisors". It facinates me to watch their progress. Wish they'd publish a progress report.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Does anyone know what's being built just southwest of Countryside? On the corner of Haun and Holland, there is alot of digging and grading going on. Not sure what's happening. Please update. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am truly proud of our community coming together as one unit. This really validates the decision my wife and I made 3 years ago to move our family from San Diego county.

There are a lot of great ideas here and I agree with many of our neighbors that Hometown Buffet is not the ticket for this area. Irvine Spectrum and Tustin Market Place are great suggestions and great places to visit if you have't been there. My biggest concern is the overall appearance of Countryside Marketplace. Hopefully it will be a place filled with mature trees and plants to conceal the enourmous hardscape areas. Our community don't need another cookie cutter strip mall but a place where we can enjoy the beautiful views of the valley and meet new neighbors.

I am really excited about this project and Love this Valley!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can't wait for them to open our new mall. We wish that we have Hometown Buffet, Movie theater, or Mervyns. But well, we should be thankful that we will have a mall to visit.

By the way, i called Kohl's asking them when they will open here? They don't have exact date when they will open.

    ReplyDelete
  39. NO HOMETOWN BUFFET PLEASE!!!! C'mon people...do you really want that kind of business around here.

    ReplyDelete
  40. And how about a nice place to shop for clothes! The shopping around here is horrible. We still have to travel to Orange County just to find a nice mall.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree, NO HOMETOWN BUFFET!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Please explain: What is wrong with having a Hometown Buffet here in Menifee? Seniors seem to love it and it's great for families.

    ReplyDelete
  43. well okay...to be honest, it's TRASHY. And the place seems to bring in trashy people.

    ReplyDelete
  44. What do you mean "TRASHY", that's very mean word to say....................

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't think a Hometown Buffet is the way to go. If people are concerned about taking kids somewhere go to Red Robin, Applebees or Dennys. A lot of places have kids eat free on certain days. Just call and ask. Trashy is a little harsh but true in a way. Sorry

    ReplyDelete
  46. A movie theater would be great! I am crossing my fingers!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was reading in your list of possible restaurants for the marketplace we may be getting either a Chipolte or Baja Fresh. Has any decission been made on this yet? If I had a vote it would be Chipotle hands down. We currently have to drive all the way out to Temecula as do many of our freinds. I know that this would be a very popular restaurant and frequented by our church group often!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Does anybody know if they're going to have a job fair for the stores that are opening up there?

    ReplyDelete
  49. MOVIES , ENTERTAINMENT AND FUN FOR FAMILIES!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT WILL BE AT THE OLD TARGET ????

    ReplyDelete
  51. I got a newsletter today and saw CHIPOTLE on the drawing!!! I'm super excited!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Seriously people I can't believe that you are so thrilled to have a Chipolte. I've been there once & that was the first & last time I've gone. Too high price & the food was not what I excepted. Rather have a "real Mexican restaurant" to eat at.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Chipotle to high priced? you must be the same person that wants a Hometown Buffet here.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ummm sorry but no I don't eat at Hometown buffet either. I do eat at Buca di Beppo, El Torito....heck I rather eat at Carnitas Express than Chipolte.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh my Gosh I can't believe all the "trash" talk. You live where you live and just because everyone that lives here doesn’t have as much money as others do don’t be so judgmental you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Do you really think we are going to determine what goes in I don't think so. They already think the demographics are not high enough to put in a Trader Joe's or Henry's. So quit arguing (like about Hometown Buffet) and just wait and be thankful that we are getting what we are getting. We could still be looking at sheep eating grass overthere for the next 10 years. Be thankful that we won't have to go to Temecula or even Hemet for much any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Did anyone figure out what is going in the old Target building after our "mall" is built?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yeah, no hometown buffett.

I am sure that there are a good number of investors out there just waiting for Countryside to open up and awaiting their revenue reports. If it proves to be succesful then we will have our movie theaters and fancy restaurants in no time. So please people shop at Countryside!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'll be happy with whatever shops we get! So what if a Hometown Buffet comes in. It didn't hurt Temecula's image. Just be happy and stop whining about what's coming. We know that Super Target, Kohl's, Lowe's, Best Buy, Staples, Old Navy, amongst others are coming. I am thrilled and just wish that more stores come this way. If Chipotle's come, then I welcome them too. Can't wait to shop in my home area and help generate some tax revenue for our future city.

  59. Amen! to LEE.

  60. Does anyone know if Linens n Things is still going in? I heard it filed for bankruptcy. And I agree too who cares what we get Hometown buffet or Pizza Hut or BJ Brewery.

  62. I had to laugh at the comments. Im excited as to whatever comes here (although Im not looking forward to trying to get over the freeway to GET there) but I have to agree with the NO Home Town Buffet. I dont even eat at Souplantation anymore....too many people's paws in the food and licking their fingers while they handle to community tongs! NASTY! LOL I dont care if they put it in - but there wont be alot of business. The one in Temecula is half empty!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Job Fair? If so when/where?

    ReplyDelete
  64. WHY TGIFRIDAY'S????? THAT RESTAURANT IS VERY RACIST. EVERYITME WE WENT THERE, WE DON'T EVEN GET A GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. IT HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES ALREADY. WE TRIED ALMOST ALL TGIF...THE FOOD IS GOOD BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BAD. I HOPE THIS ONE IS NOT....

    ReplyDelete
  65. racist? get over yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  66. 24 Hour Fitness > LA Fitness.
    =D

    ReplyDelete
  67. NOW I'VE HEARD IT ALL.....Stay away from a restaurant because they're racists? OH PLEASE, as one poster said 'get over yourself'! Does it occur to you that EVERYBODY has a not-so-good experience sometimes, whether they're blue with pink polkadots, brown, black, white. Apparently you're looking for special treatment because you live in a pity party over your race! This is the modern century - grow up!

On a feel-good note: I love the theme with the 'down on the farm' look; how inviting and peaceful. The windmill is neat, the shiny silver silo is even neater! It fits in so well with our country beauty around us ! We're corn fed and country bred out here which is what the world hungers for!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Does anybody know about the Breakfast Club that is supposed to be coming?

    ReplyDelete
  69. What I wouldn't do for a Gymboree! Come on, Gymbo, there are tons of families in the area. Stop making me drive to Riverside!

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's more jobs for now! I know I have one there.
OH, and beer and wine tasting at bevmo today
    for the grand opening ceremony

    ReplyDelete
  71. Give us a movie theater
