I have heard of plans to build a WalMart, Costco and Lowes off of Newport Rd., across the freeway from Target. Has anyone else heard this or is it a rumor? If so, is it likely our taxes will go down?

  1. I heard this from a patient of mine. Apparently, a friend of his works at Target and that is the word over there. Who knows how accurate it is?

  2. I've heard rumors of specific store names being mentioned, such as the ones Eric named. The reality is that nothing is public right now.

There are indeed big-box stores being slated for the corner of Newport and Haun, but no names are being mentioned.

The reason is because these stores don't want to invite competition. For example, if news got out that a particular store-brand is going build in that area, then competitors of that store will likely follow suit, thinking that store has inside information on a hot market.

So as it is now, the planners in Riverside County are negotiating with specific brands, but the names are supposed to be kept secret.

  3. i am a sun city / menifee resident, i feel it would be in the said companies interest to cater to the local area of menifee, the local target store offers sub standard service, the lake elsinore walmart is filthy , and clerks are rude and hardly speak english , murrieta walmart no parking , and terrible odor, and always packed. i think it would be great for the locals of menifee, saving time and gas driving to murrieta.. declining to drive to lake elsanore, or perris location due to filth and or safety reasons.. stop beating around the bush riverside co, im sure there is something in it for you we know your hands are always in the kitty as being one of the most currupt counties in southern calif, for just once think of the people and bring us in a local store...

  4. The Lake Elsinore Walmart is a hell of a lot cleaner that the fricken Murrieta Walmart. And yeah they do speak english maybe you just can't hear. It's McDonald's associates that hardly speak English. And do you have any clue what the associates at Walmart go through everyday? HOw busy they are? It's not like they are trying to be rude. You just ain't got a flippin' clue. You're just like everyone else opens their fricken mouth without thinking, and without putting yourself in their shoes. Walmart has a stronger sense of family values than any Target or K-Mart out there. Target and K-Mart couldn't careless but Wal-Mart loves their people because we are the most reliable and most useful.

  5. To the wal-mart lover, if they love their employees so much, is that why there are 2 million women suing them, and constant allegations of them changing payrolls for people? Anyway, I doubt that Wal-Mart is going to open in that area because a Target Supercenter has already been confirmed, and the one East of the 215 is closing when the Supertarget opens in the Summer of 2008 or 2009 (Tentative).

  6. reguarless of weather we like or dislike specific stores comming to Menifee, gas will continue to go up in price and for this I welcome and look fwd to the rumor of such stores comming to are wounderful little city because it will help all of us save money on GAS. Bring it what we don't need is 50,000 more homes but yet when we need to buy something we have to drive to Murrieta, Temecula or Lake Elsinore. Hell yes, I can't wait plus are young kids could find employment without the need to comute. Oh, could we get are own Theater?

  7. To anonymous:You do not want a walmart in your neighborhood. Especially the 24 hr. store. It lowers the neighborhood's standards. At night the lowlife and druggies show up and hang around. They can loiter as much as they want because no one tells them anything. There is virtually no security in or out of the store. The shoplifters and carjackers have it made. The gangs come in from LA for their fights. And this is in "quiet" Hemet. As for family values, that is bull. The management cares only for what makes them look good and treat the employees like lower class labor. The employees probably act rude because if they try to be friendly, they are written up or given a verbal warning that they are wasting time and should be working. Even the district manager calls them stupid and lazy even though this store has been #1 in sales and has received several bonuses. Yes, I am one of the women suing walmart! But I digress. You do not want more problems in you beautiful new city.Keep them out.The negatives override the positives.

  8. The Super Walmart is in final stages of approval, as it has been in approval for over one year now. The site is not planned for Newport Road at all. A Super Walmart is going to be part of a 60+ acre retail center off of Ethanac Rd (COUNTY PROPOSED EXPRESSWAY that will link HWYs 74 and 215 Through Ethanac Rd.) on the South/East corner of Ethanac and the 215. These plans usually take a long time to get approved, especially since they have been submitted to Riverside County, but it looks like something will develop in the near future. This is turning out to be a higly valuable commercial area off of Ethanac and Interstate 215.

  15. The Wal-mart is suppose to be build over by Scott road by the nursery. If not then by Antelope Road & Scott. That was the last I heard of it. I'm all for it! Walmart haters can go shop at Target-lol.

  16. The Wal-Mart is slated to go into Menifee by Scott & Haun Rds.

You don't have to buy at Wal-Mart, the but the fact is that it will bring "new" money into Menifee, because it's going to sit on the border with Murrieta. People in Mapleton will be spending their money in our town.

  17. Hi we have an suggestion!
that would be a big improvement and a good healthy idea!!!

    TRADER JOES!!!
    we need something healthy!

  18. A Trader Joes would be great! I love shopping there but don't get there much because of the Temecula traffic.

  20. Steve Where did you hear that a Walmart was going to be by Scott and Haun ? Do you know when ? I am also a Maui born Californian ! shaka brah !

  21. The plans for Wal-Mart are posted on the wall at the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce. I'm actually an Oahu-born Californian, but good enough!

  22. I would hate to see a Super Walmart come into Menifee. We have our new Super Target, and that's enough. Super Walmarts, with their groceries have put enough local grocery stores out of business. A Cost Co would be wonderful!! I'm sick of driving down to Temecula and Lake Elsinore is a little far. I buy a lot from Cost Co for my business and would welcome them into the Menifee area.

  23. Those of you who do not want or hate Walmart probably don't have a family to feed. The fact is, Walmart usually has the best prices on everything, Including groceries. Yeah it sucks that some businesses will go out of business but in these times I we need to fend for ourselves first. I guarantee you the guy at the Mom and Pop grocery store is not concerned about my survival. I'm not being cruel, it's just the way it is. Remember, Walmart started as a small company once upon a time. They just managed to do everything right on the business side of it. They have PR problems now that to some extent is not their fault. I think it's just "Hip to hate Walmart" for some people. Get a life. Save your hate for World Hunger.

  24. Walmart would be perfect for Methafee, the rednecks and whitetrash will feel right at home.

  25. I hate Walmart, too.

I love the new Haun Road shopping area. I started going over there 3 months before anything opened. We really needed a new full service place to shop in our area...I live in Sun City.

I've been in California since 1967. I feel like an old timer Californian. Which I am.

I do not resent other peoples opinions about the Area. There are some things I don't like about the Menifee Valley but the new Mall on Haun Road isn't one of them. Thank God for the new Mall. I am so glad that Wall-Mart isn't part of that complex. Wall-Mart treats its employers like crap. I am all for a Trader Joes in the area, too.

  26. I can't wait till Wal-Mart comes in our neighborhood! Who doesn't like paying less, and with Wal-Marts prices you can't go wrong these days. It's not Wal-Marts fault all those other grocery stores are going out of business, look at their prices and compare, some stuff is almost half the price at Wal-Mart and that's their everyday low price. For all those haters, don't waste your time talking trash. Wal-Mart provides lots of jobs and for all those who are trying to sue or are mad at Wal-Mart get a life, It's not anything like what they say. It's a great company and it really does care about it's associates! Don't worry all you Wal-Mart haters that like to spend double for the same item, I'm sure you will still be able to find somewhere to throw your money away...

  27. Hello there,

This definitely is confirmed, and a brand new Wal-Mart will be opening in Menifee. It will be off of Scott Road I was told. This was confirmed when I went to Wal-Mart yesterday (8/4/2010) in Lake Elsinore and saw an employee with a sign that said "Super Wal-Mart in Menifee" so I asked him about it.

  28. I think having another big name store in Menifee will be great. Not having to drive to temecula or lake elsinore will be great. Now, if we can just get a Costco :) Plus, this will bring alot of much needed jobs in the area. Of course I wont liket the higher taxes that come along with it, but oh well.

  30. A Menifee lover

I love Beautiful Menifee Lakes, I moved here over 20 yrs ago. I have seen an awful lot of growth but my delima is the terriorable traffic jams on New port Road since the Country Market Place was built. I can't help but wonder what impact more large stores will have on New Port Rd, but I must say it's refreshing to know if there is going to be a Wal Mart in the area it will be on Scott Rd.

  31. According to the Press Enterprise, The Menifee Planning Commission decided to postpone a decision on whether to approve the project until its next meeting because city officials and developers wanted more time to discuss needed road upgrades and funding.

The main worry expressed by residents and commissioners alike was that traffic would worsen if the proposed 24-hour supercenter were built before the freeway ramps and overpass at Scott Road and Interstate 215 can be upgraded.

  32. A lady came to my house with a petition form three weeks ago. I was polite about not signing the petition due to the fact that a Wal-Mart close to home would be convenient. Not that I shop there religiously but would be beneficial to have. I'm sure with the proper adjustments, the traffic will be fine. As for competing markets, there are plenty of big corporations already instilled to compete for our money. If one wants to support local entrepreneurs that option is still available. The negative effect I have witnessed about big companies moving in are street are beggars asking for change... they seem to come with the package. As for crime? I don't know. The crime rate did not escalate when Murrieta first operated the store and thus far seems to be operating at a safe standard, so I don’t see a direct correlation between the two.
