In the same report, the CEO of Sport Chalet described their strategy to become king of the sports retail world, which included their opening of the Menifee store...
"... In addition to preparing for the holiday selling season, in the current quarter we expect to accomplish four significant initiatives including, 1) continuing our store opening plan with the grand openings of our Concord and Menifee stores in California, 2) launching our co-branded Visa credit card to better serve our customers, 3) focusing on being first to market with performance, technical and lifestyle merchandise with the best brands and 4) introducing our new online strategy with enhancements to our website..."

  1. I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone, based on the lines at In and Out, how much it means to the whole community when we shop local. We know that economy begins at home, and if you're inclined to spend at all this season, Menifee would be a great place to shop!

  2. The long lines at In and Out are pretty much standard for In and Out no matter where you go. And I've been more than willing on a couple of occasions to be a participant in those long lines.

However, Mieke is right. It does mean a lot to the community and it is great having these places available to us. I haven't found the need to travel to Murrieta or Temecula for weeks now. And with a couple of exceptions that I can think of off the top of my head, I'm going to be able to do most of my Christmas shopping right there in the Countryside Marketplace shopping center.

  3. I too plan to do as much of my Xmas shpping in the center!

And the fact that I just amy get a $200.00 gift card is almost enough to make me crazy enough to stand in line Friday morning. I mean Xmas money is tight this year...... LOL Do I dare???

  4. It will be a pretty sight when the Christmas lights and decorations are up; hope they have 'piped' music playing aloud throughout the mall. Will be neat to stroll and shop in our own Marketplace. I too plan to spend in our stores as much as I can.

  5. I'm surprised that the Chamber didn't have their Christmas in Menifee event in the Marketplace parking lot. Seems that would be a perfect merger of a community supporting local business? I wonder how many Christmas in Menifee businesses were local. Kudos to those that were.

Could have been a sidewalk sale to introduce everyone to the new shops etc. or is that too much to ask of our Chamber of Commerce?

  6. In n Out may be okay, but Yellow Basket still has better quality food.
As for spending money in Menifee, we really need to push for a Costco in Menifee. I believe that the Revenue that Costco would bring in would probably equal or surpass what the Super Target brings in.
We really need to start a campaign to get a Costco built somewhere next to the Marketplace. Just to the right side of Lowe's would be a great location!

  7. In San Diego there is very good location in perfect place where lots of people go to Lowes and Ikea and Costco and Library and retail stores on Fenton Parkway. There always full on shopping parking on Fenton Parkway in San Diego. I wish to have Ikea in Menifee that would be very good location to go there at Countryside Marketplace.

  8. Are most items from Costco taxable? I thought grocery items were not taxed?

  9. Some grocery items are taxable and some are not. Either way the amount of revenue that Costco would bring to our city would be tremendous.

  10. I agree with the post that the Tree Lighting should have been there. From all reports it was a sad event. I was interested as a working artist in having a booth and being part of the Festival but wasn't going to hand out 75.00 to sit in MSJC parking. They should have lowered the price and got more people. Menifee will be great and it would be nice to see some quality traditions like our fireworks coming in. I am so glad to see the Merketplace and its stores and architecture arrive!

  11. To the artist: I agree that seems an unreasonable price for a booth in these times; especially where it was. Didn't make it over there because of disappointed feelings the last time anything was held there. Have you checked the Farmer's Market in Canyon Lake on Sundays? They have a few good craft booths in addition to the fruits and veggies. With Christmas coming, I'm looking for the unusual things for gifts. Temecula Farmer's Market has a vendor's waiting list of >400 as of last week; too bad our organizers don't take some lessons from them on setting up a successful market.

  12. At first I wasn't really excited -- 'oh goodie goodie another shopping center.' But then I began to see the size grow and then started learning about what stores would be here, and that was very intriguing. Now I see the architecture, and the design and the colors and am very excited. Everything ties together, even down to the design of the trash cans. I am very excited for the food court area to start opening. I think it will be wonderful to sit out by the fire, or the water and eat. Maybe come by on a lazy afternoon to read. I truly hope that we as a community can keep this shopping center nice. I will spend my money here every time I am able. It's nice to not have just another stucco and tile roof shopping center. It actually makes me a bit proud!

  13. I was happy to move to Menifee a few years ago. I am even happier these days with all of the new shopping available to me without having to drive into Temecula or Lake Elsinore all the time now.
    Now, WE NEED A COSTCO!
Once we have a COSTCO in our city, then ALL of my shopping will be within Menifee.
If I need to go to Costco, then I might as well shop at the stores in that area as well since it is convenient. I know I'm not alone on this one.
If Steve reads this maybe we can get a topic of discussion in regards to this and quite possibly if everyone agrees the city council can start pushing for this.

  14. Yes, we need a Costco! And a TJ MAAX..and lots of other good stores! Actually, I'd like to see one storefront set aside for rent-free local happenings, i.e. young people's groups fund raisers (wrapping gifts, etc.). My personal desire is for it to be most of all a place for the community to meet for coffee, etc..which then leads to "I need to pick up this and that while I'm here"...

  15. I don't think many stores will be opening anytime soon in Menifee or anywhere else.

The following stores have informed the Security Exchange of closing plans between October 2008 and January 2009.

  16. Most of the stores closing that are not going completely under are in poor performing areas.
Menifee is in need of various stores that will serve our immediate needs. It is obvious that the Marketplace is in a perfect spot since Super-Target, Red Robin and Best Buy all opened within the top 5 of all openings throughout the United States.
Considering that the only 2 businesses that continue to post profits in the current economy are WalMart and Costco, I believe that at the very least a Costco would perform very well within Menifee. Considering that all the residents in Menifee and Hemet must drive to either the Temecula or Lake Elsinore Costco it seems like a no brainer to push for a Costco in Menifee. I'd much rather see a Costco in Menifee before the folks in Hemet get one.

  17. It's good to see people excited about the new mail but please remember there are other stores within the city of Menifee that would love your business also. I hope we don't see all the smaller stores not in the new mall close because, yes, we have this new mall, but if you drive a few minutes away in any direction, you will see rows and rows of empty stores. On a side note, the christmas thing at the college was not that good. I went there and walked around and within 10-15 minutes, i ran out of things to look at. it was over all small and a lot of the tents were selling kind of the same thing. Plus I thought the tree they were going to light up was going to be a tree. all it was, was a wooden pole attached to the center of a small tree with white lights hanging from the pole. I think it would of been better if they had it at the new mall, something like how other large malls get a large real tree.

  18. Dudeman: Sounds like a true evaluation of how tacky the sale was; also how poorly and unwisely it was planned. I felt the same thing the last thing I attended in their 'parking lot'...very tacky and waste of time. Maybe they have learned their lesson and will look to get someone more professionally inclined to head-up future happenings. Let's see if 'Black-Friday' brings shoppers to our new mall; haven't seen much advertising, which it really needs this close to time.

  19. I only got 10 bucks. Oh wait. That was 10 more bucks than I had. Bought some fishing stuff. Stoked.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Only got $10.00 too, but used it to buy the Diamondback Viper BMX bike they had for only $99.97. What a great deal. The lady in front of me got $200.00. She bought the bike too, but her's was free. Oh well, I was very happy to see that she won the big amount.
Well, gotta get some sleep so I can get another giftcard tomorrow. Thanks Sport Chalet. Love our mall!

  21. $50.00 giftcard today!!! Yes!!! Go Sport Chalet!!!

  22. STOP CRYING ABOUT Costco! Be Calm!!! Costco, Home Depot, Super Walmart will be estabish on west of 215 FWY on Scott Rd near the future so they will work on canal for drainage first.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I spoke with the Costco corporate offices. According to the business planning department there is and has been no plans for a Costco within Menifee or Murrieta.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'll pass on the Super-Walmart. We do not need to bring the type of people that hang out in the parking lots at night. Just ask the folks in Hemet and you'll know why we need to boycott the Walmart.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Went to Sport Chalet on Sat and Sun and stood in line both days. I got $55 in gift cards all together. It was fun being there and seeing everyone come out to support the store.

    ReplyDelete
  26. NO SUPER-WALMART!!!!! It brings down the neighborhood.

    ReplyDelete
  27. A Super WalMart also provides local jobs as well as lots of income from sales tax. It is also one of the few companies doing well in this economy.

AS a side note they are also selling brand new laptop computers on black friday for $299.
