The Heritage High School football team improved its record to 3-0 Friday night by defeating Corona 56-7 in the Patriots' home opener.
Heritage led 42-0 at halftime and got a lot of reserves into the game in the second half before a celebrating home crowd. Before leaving the game, starting quarterback Devan Freedland passed for 108 yards, including touchdown passes to three different receivers.
After Sherod White opened the scoring with a 1-yard run early in the game, Freedland passed 9 yards to Rashoud Shelton for another score. The Patriots made it 21-0 on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Freeland to James Phillips before the first quarter was over.
In the second period, linebacker Rutendo Matiringe returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown and the rout was on. Jesse Estrada later ran 30 yards for a touchdown and Freedland passed 11 yards to Rickie Johnson for a 42-0 halftime lead.
Brandon Marshall rushed for 98 yards to lead Heritage rushers. Next Friday, the Patriots are at home again against Redlands East Valley.
