Paloma Valley High School broke open a close game in the second half on the way to a 27-5 victory over ML King Friday night in a nonleague football game at Paloma Valley.

Mason Carvalho scored the only touchdown of the first half when he returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdowh. The Wildcats junior was at it again in the third quarter, passing 33 yards to Koale Schroeder on a flea flicker and a 14-3 lead after three quarters.

Schroeder caught 10 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns for Paloma Valley.

It was all Paloma Valley in the fourth quarter, with the Wildcats clamping down on defense, allowing only a safety early in the period. Meanwhile, quarterback Chance Nolan threw 39 yards to Schroeder for a touchdown and Damian Torres returned a fumble recovery 45 yards for another score.

Nolan completed 18 of 27 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. Most of the Paloma Valley offense came through the air. The Wildcats totaled 67 yards rushing, led, by Nolan's 48 yards.

Pregame ceremonies featured what has become an annual tradition at Paloma Valley -- the display of a giant American flag covering the entire field. Players joined members of the school's NJROTC unit in holding the flag during the national anthem.

Next Friday, Paloma Valley (2-1) is at home against Corona High. Nolan has passed for 883 yards and 8 touchdowns in three games. AJ Williams leads Wildcat rushers with 256 yards.
