Bicyclist in Critical Condition After Collision With Car

A 15-year-old bicyclist is in critical condition with major head trauma today after a collision with a car in Canyon Lake Tuesday afternoon.

According to Canyon Lake police, the accident happened in the 22800 block of Vacation Drive about 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the male juvenile unconscious in the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital.

The initial investigation revealed the juvenile was riding his bike without a helmet downhill from an adjacent roadway, police said. The juvenile crossed onto Vacation Drive and broadsided a Cadillac Escalade. The force of the impact was so great that the side air bags of the Escalade deployed.

The 59-year-old female driver, from Canyon Lake, remained at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement. The boy's name was not released.
