On August 14, 2011, Canine Support Teams, Inc. held their first annual “HOT COUNTRY NIGHT…benefiting those who have served our Country”, an event to raise money for their PAWZ for Wounded Veterans Program. Canine Support Teams, located at 26500 Scott Road, Menifee, CA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for those with disabilities. The PAWZ for Wounded Veterans Program provides specially trained assistance dogs to those servicemen and women who have served in the armed forces and have returned with disabling injuries. The dogs are provided at no cost to the recipient.

The event was held at the Wooden Nickel Ranch, 25690 Holland Road, Menifee, CA 92584 on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 4pm to 8pm. The venue location was graciously donated by City of Menifee Councilmember, Tom Fuhrman.

Nancy Hudson, Vice President & Project Chair of the De Luz Women’s Club stated, “This event was fabulous! It really brought home to me what this program, the PAWZ for Wounded Veterans Program, is really all about. I think you all have done a fabulous job to raise funds for this very, very worthy cause. I’ve had so much fun tonight! Good job!”

More than 180 people came out to enjoy a great barbeque, music by The Silverados, dancing, raffle, silent auction prizes and face painting. Event Coordinator, Donna Willis’ goal was to raise $20,000 and states that the event revenue was just short of that goal.

Two wounded veterans, Doug Allmen and Leo Ochoa spoke about their service related disabilities and how their assistance dog provided by Canine Support Teams has changed their lives. The service dog demonstration by Sheri Peek and her dog “Bindy” was a great hit and focused on what these dogs are trained to do for their disabled partner.

Canine Support Teams extends special thanks to the following sponsors: City of Menifee Councilmember, Tom Fuhrman, The De Luz Women’s Club, Riverside Kennel Club, Brent Martini, Petco Foundation, Dogtopia, Sparkletts Water, Black Market Brewing Company, Hansen’s/Monster Energy, Pat & Oscar’s Restaurant, Southwest Airlines, Long’s Automotive, Gail Williams Century 21 Real Estate, Rick and Virginia Winter, Greystone Marketing and Phoenix Marketing Services. They also thank all the businesses and private individuals who donated raffle and silent auction items. These items came to an approximate value of $8,000.

Canine Support Teams currently has approximately 15 wounded veterans waiting for a trained assistance dog. With the average cost of $15,000 to train one of these dogs, CST must constantly seek funding. To learn more, visit www.caninesupportteams.org.
