Last March I wrote about a new apartment project planned for the corner of Newport Rd and Winterhawk (on the other side of Newport from the Mobil station) dubbed, "Vineyards at Menifee".

The Desert Sun reports today that the Riverside County Board of Supervisors is expected to release an additional $750,000 in funds to help build this thing...
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors is expected today to approve the findings of an environmental impact report on a proposed senior living complex in Menifee and authorize the release of $750,000 in funds to support the project.

The County already has earmarked $2 million from its redevelopment fund. The $750,000 we're talking about here comes from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.

Vineyards at Menifee is a 55+ complex, and about 39 of the 80 total units will be reserved for low-income renters. There will also be 15 units reserved for homeless, and mentally-disabled persons under assistance from the county's Department of Mental Health.

You can read more about these 15 "mental health" units from a PDF document published by the county...

  1. Gotta love riverside county politicians.

Lets put section 1A housing in Menifee. Get credit for it and then deed it into a new city and it'll be out of the county.

  2. Steve, your reporting and keeping up with everything is beyond me and I commend you ! What a blessing to the community you are ! BTW, when and what topic is the next radio talk show with Therese?

  3. Are they going to be importing the homeless from around the county? Or will this be for the Menifee homeless?

  4. I would dearly like to see a posting of the rules in the complex-not for the seniors nec. but the homeless or special needs people-who might also be past or present criminals. I do have a homeless, alcoholic relative-a non physical person-but I still wouldn't want them directly set in a new and still fairlt open neighborhood where we are all used to kids on bikes, horses and schools and families-its a stupid move on Riverside County's part.

  5. Welcome homeless and the afflicted, do see how Menifee wants you..they gave an award to someone who ran homeless people from Sun City,,one thing you can always count on from these folks snobs, rude and insensitive and those are their good points..oops did I say one thing.

  7. It is concerning considering the already high number of sex offenders in the area. Is there a mental health facility in Menifee that serves these people? It seems you would not want to encourage them to live far from where they need to go to get services. I know Perris, Hemet, and Riverside have clinics. I had a relative that was homeless. It was a choice. Our laws give people rights to choose what sometimes is not best for them.

  8. Got my notice today about this development starting up in my neighborhood. Seriously, they are going to build across the street from the homes on Winterhawk. I guess our property values going down even further are of no concern to our city politicians. Now I will have to go check for even more sex offenders that are sure to be the ones taking full advantage of this housing project. Just wait, you'll see.

  9. Gee I wonder who is getting a financial gain from this? One of our city council members? Our beautiful town of Menifee is turning into an area that I will worry about my children. Low income? what are the council members thinking? Menifee needs to set an example of good family living, and not some place where I worry about my children walking home from school. If I wanted to live in the slums, I would have bought in the slums. Wake up people!!!

  10. You know why you all are posting as "Anonymous" citizens? It's because you know that what you are saying is insensitive and unkind. It is not a crime to be in a low income bracket, and not all low income families have America's most wanted living with them, or associate with the same. NEW FLASH! Parents who earn a lower income worry about the safety of their children too, and want to bring them up in clean safe neighborhoods just like you. Consider being a good example, and try treating your new neighbors the way you'd like to be treated. Sincerely, Linc W.

  11. Would sex offenders actually be able to live in this complex? The site is directly next to a preschool-8th grade private school.

  12. That's a good question about sex offenders and someone should look into what the law actually states. I think they have to be so many feet away from schools.etc. I must say, homeless do need help in finding a place but, one has to be very careful and screen homeless and mentally afflicted folks, not knowing, while living in SD, I rented what I thought was in a retirement complex and it had a lot of mentally afflicted folks, and I can tell you first hand, we had nothing but problems. They see things a lot differently and constantly cause problems with other tenants, it was a nightmare and I couldn't 'wait' to get out of the place. I don't think I'd want to move into such a place, even though its new, it has a lot of negative aspects to this place already.
