The Riverside County Sheriff announced that officers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Canyon Lake, tomorrow, Friday June 27, from 6:00pm to 3:00am.

Since Railroad Canyon Rd is the only main drag in Canyon Lake, I'm guessing it'll be on that road.

You might want to make sure your car registration and proof of insurance are up to date, and in your car, because they'll check for that too.

  1. They usually do this on the east end of Railroad Canyon, right where it curves and becomes Goetz Road. The street narrows to a single lane both ways and helps the cops with this task. Last time they did this in that location the cops were hooking up and towing vehicles with expired registration. The new Newport Road worked as a great conduit for the tow trucks to avoid all the traffic on the main roads.

So if you want to come to Menifee or leave Menifee tonight and you think you might have a problem, use Scott Rd/Bundy Canyon instead.

  2. Wow!

How about if you want to come to Menifee or leave Menifee and you think you might have a problem, call a cab or get a ride from somebody that doesn't have a problem.

In other words, don't drink and drive!

It is possible David meant that if people were going to have a problem with traffic, (the checkpoint does start at 6:00 PM, after all), then they should take Bundy Canyon Road.

But you DO make an excellent point. If anybody is going to have a problem driving because of too much alcohol, they should have the common sense to call a cab.

  4. What really aggravates me is when I'm TRYING to adhere to the posted speed limits along the part with construction of Railroad Canyon Rd, drivers insist on traveling as close to my backend as possible in effort to speed me up. If they want to pay a doubled-fine, thats okay, but I'm traveling safely IAW the speed posted ! Officers may want to pay closer attention to the speeders along that stretch. BTW, do we have a MADD Chapter in this area?

  5. Hmmmmm. Just because someone is going a couple miles over the speed limit dose not mean that there drunk.I don’t know if you know this but some people have what you would call an emergency. So if someone is on your “Tail” then maybe you should take that in consideration and quit thinking about your self. Quit being selfish. Its people like you that cause road rage.

  6. It would be polite, and probably less aggravating for everyone if slower drivers would pull over and let speedier drivers pass. It's not always possible because of the width of the roads 'round here, but it sure isn't our duty to MAKE everyone else obey the speed limit or to BREAK the speed by getting on their tail.

Back in the day, there used to be drivers etiquette where flashing your headlights meant that you were holding up traffic and should turn out. Do they even teach that stuff anymore?

I usually just try to stay out of peoples' way either by pulling over or speeding up, as the case may be. Be careful out there.

  7. Wow-what raised its ugly head over my not liking to be tailgated when I'm going the speed limit. So HE's on an emergency...yeah, right. Let him tell that to the officer. That officer could tell him the old saying "lack of planning on YOUR part does not constitute an emergency on MY part..here's your ticket". Maybe double your fine would wake you up. Reminder: Railroad Canyon Road is NOT a freeway...yet anyway.

  8. So back to the topic... Did they arrest many drunk drivers???

  10. Did they arrest many drunk drivers???

We hauled in our fair share of drunks last night/this morning. In addition to DUI's, we had the usual unlicensed/suspended drivers, as well as common traffic violations. We even took a firearm off the streets.

  11. Thank you Sheriff Deputies for keeping us safe.As a victim of a drunk driver in the past who totalled our car. Thank you

  12. I am not sure If anyone got stopped by the checkpoint yesterday night, but I really belive they are not doing it to keep people safe or to prevent drunk drivers it is a big scam to get people with low income in a bigger hole since they are impounding their cars and as you know is the wekend so they are not able to get their cars back untill monday, halfh of those pople are law obeying citizens and as you know they only conduct those check points by the end of the month so they can keep their couta comming in. It feels like the police steals you car in a legal way so you can pay up to $500 to get it back. I am saying this because I am one of them, yesterday I got stopped and they impounded my vehicle because my licence was expired for 2 months wich in reality was my fault for not noticing but taking my vehicle away was just not the lawfull thing to do, belive me this can hapen to anyone of you. for the officer that feel really proud of doing this to regular people like me and make some us feel like criminals, GREAT JOB TO YOU SIR!!!

  13. Oh I am happy when they impound cars for lack of registration, an expired license, no insurance, expired registration. And of course the people who are driving under the influence, arrest them AND take their car away. Is it really that hard to live on the correct and right side of the law??? I applaud the Sheriffs for doing their job.

  14. To Anonymous June 28,2008 9:21PM. You should grow up and learn to be responsible for your actions or lack of. If your license expired you are unlicensed. Unlicensed drivers get their cars Impounded. I bet you didn't forget your birthday did you? Well that's when your license expired. Quit blaming others for your short comings. Oh yea, don't always blame the Police when you screw up and get caught.

  15. I am not sure If the punishment fit the crime and I will make sure I check all my papperwork to ensure It is all up to date, I kind of belive that taking vehicles way for drunk driving and suspended licenses is a good thing but for expired liceses may not, I don't remember when was the last time I looked at my licence expiration date? I am sure as hell that I will do it now.
as far as the police is just a way of flexing their big musscles!! what out for karma:)

  16. Okay wow, so some of your are upset about a check point and vehicles being impounded. I have a really great tip for the future... How about follow the Law. Pretty crazy i know but so far it has worked great for my Family. With a attitude like yours you probably desevered to have your car impounded i believe someone said something about Karma.. Well theres your Karma for ya. Police are just doing thier Jobs if you dont want to get caught up in nonsense with them then i would suggest you abide by the law. Doesnt seem to hard for us regular folks.

  17. let me just tell you when you said regular folks I see myself as a regular folk but not after Friday night when they were treating me like a criminal asking me if I was drinking and making me get out of my car, while they were searching it!! I hope that none of you family has to go through that even as myself a person that obeys the law, in witch the case is that It will happen to you or someone you know I can guarantee you that and when that happens you will be more sympathetic to all those people that got their cars taken away, I know I am! Lets just say you forget to pay a bill and the Goverment takes your house away because of that? It is exaggeration but taking cars for minor offenses is ridiculous. What happened with writing tickets?
FYI my car was not impounded but I was really upset on the way I was treated.

  18. Here's the deal... If you don't have a valid license you aren't suppose to be driving. If you or someone you love were hit by an unlicensed driver (and that is what you are when your license is expired and you don't renew it) then you would be singing a different tune. The police ENFORCE the law, they don't write it. If you don't have a license then don't drive or you lose your car. When the police are impounding your car they have to search it to fill out an inventory sheet (more of them ENFORCING the law) so that you can't come back and claim that the police or tow company stole from you. Here's a tip... check your mail, the DMV sends out a license renewal notice and they make it so easy that in the time it took you to post your comment here you could have renewed your license.

Did anyone notice the Sheriff department even got a firearm off the streets with this checkpoint? They are doing a great service to the community with things like this and I hope they keep it up.

    BTW: quotas are a myth.

  19. Wow you all are hard on each other.
Just wondering how many of you think it is right for the police to inpound a car because someone did not find the registration in the car ? ( they had registration but not the papers to show it)
I think that is wrong. if the Police just typed it in there car computer, they would see that she was registered. BUT NO they needed to inpound her car. Mind you, she was a single Mom on her way to work............ That is so so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Was this incident with the missing registration you or did you hear the story from someone else?
If it was you, yes, that is really sad and you could probably file some sort of complaint. If it wasn't you and you were not personally there then you should wonder what really happend because it sounds like there are some key details missing?

    ReplyDelete
  21. As a current member of law enforcement, quotas are in fact real. Not a myth as another poster stated.

  22. Michelle D, I hope you are never broke and have to choose between paying for rent and food and diapers over your car registration. I am quite sure you would feed and clothe your child instead of paying for registration, so you are not "breaking the law". People need to have some compassion, in these tough economic times hard choices need to be made. I think it would be tragic if someone had their car towed for expired tags. In most cases, they have probably had to choose what pay and what to let go, waiting for things to improve. I'm sure many of us have been or will be in the same position.

    ReplyDelete
  23. A few points:

    1) I can assure you, we did not impound any vehicles for "missing" registration forms. There were plenty of other valid violations present.

    2) It is very much illegal in the State of CA, beginning in 41600 of the CA vehicle code, for any LE agency to establish "quotas" of any knd...MYTH!

    3) We treated everyone that night with the utmost respect.

  24. I would said that it is an exageration of the law, and having people pay up to $700 later is just a big busines that has nothing to do with enforcing the law? It is like the other person said stealing legally. you sir are all crooks!!!!! you know who I am talking about. you bend the law any way you please when you want to, and you know that. you are there to serve and protect not to make things worst for people like the lady that was on her way to work. What goes around come around!!
