Board members from both the Menifee Union School District and Perris Union High School District are holding a public meeting this Thursday, June 19, to discuss how to proceed further with the unification process.

The meeting will take place at Bell Mountain Middle School, 5:30pm.

At this point, the Riverside County Committee on School District Organization is going to recommend the State Department of Education to stop this effort, based on a study last March that showed the unification effort would an adverse effect on the remaining students of Perris Union.

But even though the County believes it's a bad idea, doesn't mean it's a bad idea. The State has the last word on this matter, and be convinced otherwise. Parents are needed to attend the meeting and show their support.

Many of you readers have asked about what you can do for the new City of Menifee, here's something. Show up, and let the school board members know that you want unification.

  1. I live in Heritage Lake, which as of October 1, will officially be Menifee. Unification will hurt us here because we are the students that will be left in the Perris Union district! It is unfair to me that the Menifee School district wants Paloma but Heritage is left to make do with whats left of the Perris district. This unification is definitely not a good thing for all of Menifee, just a select part!

  2. When purchasing a home always make sure you know the school situation. You are in the Romoland district now and you likely always will be. School District boundaries and Municipal boundaries are often not the same.

  3. To the first commenter: Don't take the attitude that things are going to get worse because of unification. Parents in the Romoland district ought to fight for unification for themselves.

Unification would have a higher chance of success if the Perris Union district completely dissolved, with all of its high schools being absorbed into the other union districts.

  4. I too live in Heritage Lake and wanted to know how the schools there will work. We are split into Romoland School District for the elemantary and Jr. High and PUHSD for Heritage High. Now that the Community of Heritage Lake will become Menifee what happens with these schools? Will they ever be apart of Menifee School District, or we be paying city taxes for schools our kids will never be apart of?
    Thanks again

  5. The State of California gives schools money now. The amount of money they receive is based on the number of kids attending. That's why schools and districts fight over kid$ and boundaries.

Your local taxes don't stay in your schools anymore, so the "My taxes paying for their schools" thing is not applicable. It's more like, "My taxes help pay for all schools in CA."

You will live in the city of Menifee and in the Romoland school district. It will likely stay that way.

  6. Steve,
I take the attitude that things will get worse just by reading your article and I quote "The Riverside County Committee on School Districts is going recommend to stop this effort based on a study last March that showed the unification effort would have an adverse effect on the remaining students of Perris Union". Living in Heritage Lake that means my kids will suffer the ADVERSE effect! To the second poster, we did know the school district situation when we bought here. What I don't like is the Menifee school district making our school (Heritage) struggle more and have less because they want Paloma. You want Menifee parents to come to the meeting to show support for unification, well I am a Menifee parent now but I do NOT support unification because it will only take away from my community!

  7. Why would Heritage struggle more and receive less?

I've been to Heritage... they have EVERYTHING! What an unbelievably beautiful facility. Paloma is a dump in comparison.

  9. I believe that it wouldnt just hurt ONLY heritage but PUHSD as a whole. each district recieves state funds based on student count. If PUHSD loses a whole High school along with the students then the funding for the whole district goes down which means budget cuts, less teachers and less extra programs. This hurts the students that attend PUHSD.

  10. They will lose students and a high school. The money lost would be the money used to operate Paloma... Which they would no longer need to pay for. Right?

  11. No, PUHSD would also lose the students that go to Heritage from Bell Mountain. That will create overcrowding at Paloma and financial loss for PUHSD.

  12. There's compensation involved for the students from Bell Mountain that PUHSD was counting on.
