I was initially tempted to ask this question in response to a comment made by a poster under a different heading. The comment reflected on the number of suggestions citizens had made regarding what the new city should do, but not a single person had asked how to become involved in the new city. As I was typing up my response, I decided there was the possibility of it getting lost in the shuffle. Therefore, I decided to post under a new heading.

I don't know if the last vote has been counted, but it doesn't appear that any of the five current vote leaders are going to lose their positions. So even though the election hasn't officially been certified, I will refer to those five individuals as our city council. I know at least some of them read this site, if not all of them.

With that, I'm posing these questions to the newly elected city council members: Mr. Edgerton, Ms. Kuenzi, Mr. Twyman, Mr. Mann and Mr. Denver: How can we, as citizens of Menifee, become involved in the formation of the new city? What type of committees are going to be formed? How much input are citizens going to have regarding the directions to be taken in the next few months before incorporation and beyond? What plans, if any, are there to bring the communities involved (Sun City, Quail Valley, Romoland and Menifee) closer together and end the divisiveness that is obviously apparent? What plans are there for showing cityhood opponents that cityhood was the right choice? Have the five individuals that are currently leading in vote count even met yet to discuss some of these issues?

I don't have the first clue about starting a city, but I know there has to be a lot of work involved. I don't expect five people to piece together a new city in less than four months.

So I'm offering my services in any way the city council sees fit. There are areas I have a lot of knowledge and expertise in and there are areas I have strong opinions about. I also have the ability to look at things objectively from more than one point of view.

Please feel free to contact me regarding involvement with the city, and that goes for all Menifee 24/7 readers, not just the city council members.

  4. I find it hard to believe that no one else has commented on this. First they're all "how can we get involved in our new city" then poof they disappear. I know that I would like to get involve.

  5. I hope they can provide some ways to get involved in the first council meeting Wednesday afternoon at the Kay Ceniceros Ctr. Will be interesting I'm sure.

  6. The first council meeting will be closed to the public. Only a short time to ask questions at the beginning.

  7. What the heck? These candidates were all over the place before the election. Now, not one of them can post a comment. So typical, when your vying for something you'll promise the world, as soon as you get it, poof your gone. And when running errands yesterday I counted 10+ Darci elections signs. It's time to remove them!

  8. I would like to get involved also-esp in the formation of some type of arts council-get things rolling right away for arts fairs and art walks-even if only once a year in the shopping areas-planning for beautification and a art alliance...?! I can think of 2 or three addl people who would also immediately help.

  9. I personally voted against measure F. I've lived in the area for 24 years now and at first was very positive about incorporating. However, as I read more and more of the campaign material from the folks running for the new city council, I was quite turned off by the idea of any of them running a new city of which I am now, unfortunately, a resident. It seemed to me that the best qualifications any of the candidates could come up with were the fact that they went to church on a regular basis, loved their families and community, and of course want a strong law enforcement presence (gotta be "tough on crime"). It seemed like the very best qualification one particular candidate came up with, was the fact that he had his picture taken with Ronald Reagan. Sadly enough, the same candidate didn't seem to bother to spell check the flier I received in the mail. What exactly is "interity" ?

I do know one thing that I would love to see our new council members take upon themselves to show just how much they really care about their beloved community. How about picking up all the campaign trash you've left behind?

  10. Please attend the city council meetings and email or call your councilmen. We need your input. I am worried that now that the election is over the voters will fall asleep.

Please come and tell us what you want for our city so I can support you wishes.

  11. OOPS "your wishes"

  12. Bill Z who headed Cedco is calling for a meeting on Monday at the Antelope-Menifee Rural Center at 7pm to form 3 committes. Community Development, Economic Development and a Transition Team. He feels very strongly about giving the council input before they hire their interim staff.
There is already an existing historical society which hopes to preserve some rural and historical aspects of the community.
Maybe individuals could start some meetup groups to plan and prepare a presentation to the council.

  13. Its good and its bad; Mr. Z has good intentions; how-ever, if its not coordina-ted with, and approved by, the Board, it does little. His views could be counter-productive to the Board's views and he needs to respect that. If he comes up with a plan and simply presents it to the board for consideration, he's more apt hold down the friction which could certainly result in his aggressiveness. I'm more interested to see the range of members we get on these committees; we need a cross-section to include someone from each area; NOT all the same-ole, same-ole, "you-get-me-in, I'll-get-you-in" acquainted groups pushing things as they want. Give us some NEW names of volunteers for these boards - and NO stampers !

  14. WELL AS THE POSTER, WHO ASKED WHY NO ONE HAD ASKED HOW TO HELP AMID ALL THE POSTUREING ABOUT WHAT THE NEW COUNCIL SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T DO - ANOTHER OBSERVATION: SHOULD WE NOT START USEING NAMES INSTEAD OF -ANONYMOUS???????? -JOHN-D

  15. Disagree. Posting/using names just encourages personal attacks. This is one place that being able to use anonymous allows information, HONEST opinions, etc to be given without being slammed by name with 'name-calling'. If its changed to mandatory names given, who knows if that name is correct. YOU could use MY name and get me harrassed ! Looking forward to tonight's meeting of the council; I just hope we begin with, and keep, good attendance; hearing it firsthand is the best source of whats going on.
