It seems like once a week someone knocks at my door wanting to clean my carpets. I usually tell them, "thanks for the brochure, I'll call you when I need you".

But that usually isn't good enough. I don't like to shut the door on them, I like to be polite about it, and wish they would be respectful of my answer. But more often than not I have to say "no thanks" a few times, and then am asked to explain why I don't want clean carpets. About that time, I close the door.

Then one day this teen-aged looking girl knocked on my door, wanting to clean my carpet for free. I knew this was a gimmick, I mean who wants to clean my carpet for free? But after several times telling her "no thanks", she demanded to know why I didn't want a free carpet cleaning. I closed the door on her, and she kept knocking on the door. I finally had to yell at her, and which she argued back, "you don't have to yell at me, I just want to know why you don't want a free carpet cleaning".

Well, then today I read this message posted on a web forum, about a girl going around wanting to offer a free carpet cleaning...
has anyone else been ripped off by this company. IF NOT THIS IS TO WARN YOU ABOUT THESE SO CALLED "FREE CARPET CLEANING" OFFERS. THERE WILL BE A GIRL AT YOUR DOOR OFFERING TO CLEAN YOUR CARPET FOR FREE, IN RETURN ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR OPINION. OF COURSE THAT IS A LIE. THEN A SALESMAN COMES IN YOUR HOME AND STARTS DOING THIS PRESENTATION ON THE KIRBY VACUUM. BOTTOM LINE...THEY WILL TRY TO SELL YOU THE VACCUM FOR 2500 PLUS DOLLARS. THEY WILL KEEP LOWERING THE PRICE UNTIL YOU SAY YES. IF U DO END UP BUYING ONE YOU HAVE 3 DAYS TO CANCEL. WHICH IS SNEAKY OF THEM BECAUSE THEY ONLY ASK THAT YOU MAIL THE CANCELATION FORM, BUT THEN THEY WILL ACT LIKE IT GOT LOST IN THE MAIL. SO WATCH OUT FOR THE WHITE VAN DRIVING AROUND WITH A BUNCH OF LOW LIFE SNEAKY SALESPEOPLE THAT WILL COME INTO YOUR HOUSE AND REFUSE TO LEAVE.
Ok, so now it makes sense. What they want is for you to invite them into your house. Once they get that, they begin the hard sell on an overpriced vacuum cleaner, and refuse to leave.

  1. We had one of these girls come to the door...I told her no..she started arguing, demanding why I wouldn't want a free cleaning...I told her it was a new carpet (less than a year old, why not?)..then when she wouldn't take that answer..I shut the door...worked out well because we have a security screen door...(I highly recommend them)
Someone else who comes around constantly are the guys selling meat out of their trucks..now with all the warnings going out now..I don't know HOW these guys stay in business....

  2. The last time one of these "sales" types came to my door I politely told them "no thanks". When they argued I told them I'm shutting the door now, when I return it will be with a .45 and shovel, I doubt you will be missed. They were gone when I returned. I put up a sign covering all aspects of door to door vendors telling them to go away.

  3. Had this company come to my door. The young lad said she would get paid $30 if I allowed her team to demo the carpet cleaning product, as if I should feel sorry for denying her request. I have new carpet (it's a new neighborhood), it's in prefect condition!!!

  4. I had the exact same thing, little less than a year ago. Girl came to the door, wanted to give a free carpet cleaning, but then added it was to help her raise money to go on a trip to New York. Also being a new home, I politley insisted my carpet didn't need to be cleaned since it was new. She also wanted an explanation as to why I wouldn't want a free carpet cleaning. After some back and forth banter, I finally told her she could stand there all day and keep asking but my answer wasn't going to change. It reeked of a scam from the second I opened the door.

  5. Put up a "No Soliciting" sign and eliminted all them with one Large sign and $2. Also I had my HOA to put up a sign in the entrance's of the community. "Priviate Roads" and "solicters will be reported".

  6. Before living in Menifee, I had a salesperson, that didn't like my answer, try to come in. I slammed the door on him and deadbolted the door.

  7. I had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago. A girl came by and stated she would get money if I agreed. She stated she worked all day and had not made any money. I felt bad for her so I agreed. BAD IDEA!!

She came back with this man who had a body builder body. She left and he stayed. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and he did his presentation. He gave me the cost of $2500 for a Kirby and I told him it was to much money. He kept lowering the price down to finally $500.

I told him I would need to discuss it with my husband who is at work. He told me not to tell my husband and he would give me the vacuum for $250.

I knew it was a scam and asked him to leave. He got upset and started throwing things in his bag. This guy was huge and I was getting nervous as I was their only with my two small kids ages 9 and 6. He would not leave so I was really getting scared. I told my kids to go up stairs and I was cutting tomatoes for a salad. Got the knife and put it in a situation to defend myself if necessary.

He finally left and I pledge to myself I would never let anyone in my home no matter what. Since then Kirby has knocked on my door at least 5 times. Now if I don't recognize the person at the door I won't open it.

  8. oh my god!I wrote that!!I wrote the original comment. I am glad I got through to someone.I ended up returning the vacuum because I FOUGHT with the sales manager after he told me my cancellation form "got lost"in the mail. DON'T LET THESE PEOPLE IN YOUR HOUSE.I HAVE COME ACROSS SEVERAL PEOPLE ALREADY THAT MADE THE MISTAKE OF NOT SENDING THE CANCELLATION FORM CERTIFIED MAIL AND ARE NOW STUCK WITH THE VACUUM AND PAYMENTS.ALSO THE VACUUM ONLY HAS A 3 YEAR "LIMITED WARRANTY".NOT A LIFETIME,LIKE THE SALESPEOPLE SAY.

  9. I believe that we have all had these annoying kirby vaccum salespeople come into our neighborhood here in menifee. I actually agreed to allow them to come in and clean a small area in my house because the young girl would not stop bugging! She had stated that if she cleaned a small area she would get 50 dollars of credit towards college. I agreed because I felt sorry for her. Soon a black man was at my door not a young girl, who claimed that SHE would be the one that would be cleaning my carpet. The young girl is just a DECOY where as I also felt scared because I was home alone. This kirby salesman stayed for two hours!! And that was because I kicked him out!! He would not go away!!! He was soo pushy!!I HIGHLY HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DONT OPEN THE DOOR !! THEY WILL WORK THEIR WAYS INTO YOUR HOME AND NOT LEAVE FOR HOURS ... ESPECIALLY LADIES IF YOUR HOME ALONE BEWARE!! YOU NEVER KNOW WHO WILL END UP INSIDE WITH YOU!! BECAREFUL AND DON'T OPEN THE DOOR IF YOU SEE THE WHITE VAN!!
