Off-Roaders Upsetting Local Folks

Perhaps the issue that will only get hotter before it starts to cool off, are off-roaders buying property out by Sage, Radec, Anza, Aguanga, and parts thereof. An angry property owner in Aguanga wrote to The Californian saying:
There oughta be a law! I've watched friends become ill and frustrated, finally moving away, our valley turned into a dust bowl filled with unrelenting and resonating noise. It's not just the volume; it's the change in frequency that drives one crazy. A dirt-bike riding neighbor doesn't know why we get irritated. He says he likes peace and quiet, too. That's easy to say when you're in control. It's only noisy and dusty when he wants it that way.

This is a very tough issue. As a homeowner, I don't want to hear loud noisy engines blaring away either. However, land ownership and freedom are two things sacred to our way of life in the United States. You should have the right to do what you want on your land.

The people who buy land out in the rural areas of Riverside County have every right to enjoy the peace and quiet. However, the people who buy land out in the same area also have the right ride their off-road vehicles. Enjoying peace and quiet is no more "righteous" than riding off-road vehicles. Both sides of the issue should have no preference over the other.

It's kinda like when your next door neighbor starts playing the music too loud. The Sheriff can only do something about it if the noise level reaches a certain decibel level. Otherwise, you're out of luck.

  2. I live in Menifee in the rural area of Murrieta Road. I moved here eight years ago because of the beauty of the mountain views, and the peace and quiet. The off roaders need to ride their bikes elsewhere. I do not want the noise or the dust. They ride in high fire areas and they are putting the environment at risk. I drive down the dirt road and they are speeding by, it's very dangerous. These are our homes, not a offroad race track. Please go somewhere else.

  3. Rights!?... Get real... If what I do reasonably distrubs a neighbor I should STOP... I have no "Right" to play offensive music, do offensive activities, post offensive material, etc. on 'my' property. My 'quietness' does not distrub others... Dirt bikes do! Here is the real problem... Most people are yelling about their 'rights'... seldom about their 'responsibilities'! I have a responsibility to be a good neighbor and citizien... If that means I can not do everything I want when I want where I want... so be it.... Find someone who has been taught respect and consideration for others and ask them to help you GROW UP!

  4. Concerned in Menifee,
The off roaders seem to be growing in numbers and frequency. The dirt and the noise is almost unbearable at times. One person out in this area has bought a 10 acre parcel and turned it into a mini motocross. Neighbors here, have horses and chickens. This is a rural area. Why are they allowed to do this?

  5. Is there an ordinance about riding motorcycles etc. in back yards? I live in a housing tract with small back yards and my neighbors ride their motorcycles around and around in circles and up the side of a slope in thier back yard. It is less than 100 yards from my back door! Any info out there?

  6. Its not just rural areas anymore that are an issue. I live in an housing tract off McCall and we have several people who have moved into this housing tract and have rode their motorcycles through out the housing tract. My husband and I are looking forward to the day we can move and get away from these noise polluters. Its bad enough hearing the neighbors who can't seem to keep their music to themselves instead of blasting the whole neighborhood!

  7. Have you asked them to stop yet? Face to face communication is a new concept.
