Update: Story now includes the identity of the deceased.

An adult male pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the middle of Menifee Road died from his injuries Friday morning, leading to an hours-long blockage of the road during the investigation.

The collision happened at about 4:23 a.m., according to a Menifee Police Department news release. A Dodge Ram truck struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway for unknown reasons. The driver of the truck remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor for the driver.

According to a witness, the truck was traveling southbound on Menifee Road approaching Wickerd Road when it struck the pedestrian, who was not wearing reflective clothing while walking in the middle of the roadway. The deceased was identified by the Coroner's Office as 57-year-old Eliazar Garcia of Menifee.

Menifee Road was closed from Garland Lane to Scott Road for several hours during the investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding the collision is asked to contact the Menifee PD Traffic Unit at 951-723-1690 or 951-723-1565.
