News release from Eastern Municipal Water District:

Riverside County’s family of water agencies recently launched a collaborative campaign with a goal to continue assuring customers that the region is coming together during this unprecedented time to maintain essential services to the communities they serve. The regional campaign aims to reinforce the collective efforts the agencies have undertaken as essential service providers to protect public health during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Eastern Municipal Water District, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, Jurupa Community Services District, Rancho California Water District, Riverside Public Utilities, Western Municipal Water District and the City of Corona want to reinforce that your local tap water is safe to drink, your wastewater (sewer) collection and treatment systems are reliable, and as essential services providers they are here to serve you.

COVID-19 has no impact on the quality or reliability of drinking water supplies. All public water agencies are required to use treatment technologies that remove or kill viruses or pathogens, including coronavirus. Water quality testing is performed daily to ensure that state and federal drinking water standards are met.

Not only can customers have confidence in these essential services, but Riverside County water agencies are also reminding customers that they can do their part to help maintain a healthy and reliable sewer system.

Customers should avoid placing “flushable” wipes into the sewer system, as the wipes do not break down like toilet paper and can lead to costly blockages that may back up into customer homes or businesses. To reinforce these important messages, the spring/summer campaign will feature 11 billboards throughout Riverside County and will have a strong social media hashtag campaign to #KeepItFlowingIE.

This collective outreach effort builds on the strong relationship this family of water agencies currently has with its customers and communicates the continued effort of essential workers to meet customer water service needs while minimizing face-to-face contact. Staff at all agencies are practicing social distancing and wearing face coverings to protect public health.

For more information, contact your local agency about their individual efforts to provide safe and reliable water and wastewater service.
