Freedland, Phillips star in Heritage's first-round playoff win

Quarterback Devan Freedland passed for 5 touchdowns Friday night to lead the Heritage High School football team to a 55-21 victory over La Mirada in the first round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs.

Freedland threw TD passes of 14, 56 and 56 yards to James Phillips. He also threw scoring passes of 54 and 27 yards to Rashoud Shelton. In addition, Kenny Teter returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown, Phillips returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score and Sherod White ran 81 yards for a TD.

Heritage improved its record to 10-1 and will play Calabasas next Friday in the second round.
