Freeway Lane Reductions Under Newport Bridge Set

Lane reduction on Interstate 215 near the Newport Road Interchange construction will begin Friday and continue for about three months, Menifee city officials announced.

Motorists driving northbound on southbound will see traffic lanes reduced from three lanes to two each way near and under the bridge. Lane closures in both directions are scheduled from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for re-striping.

The new configuration will include a dedicated lane merging onto the freeway both northbound and southbound for better traffic flow, according to the news release. There will also be a dedicated lane for those exiting the freeway.

The $48.4 million project to reconstruct the interchange at Newport Road is expected to be completed in winter 2016.
