Funeral services will be held Monday for longtime Sun City resident and World War II veteran Art Froehlich, who died Jan. 12 at the age of 92.

Froehlich was well known in the greater Menifee area, especially in the Sun City community, where he lived and was active in VFW Post 1956. He flew C-47 planes in Europe for the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and maintained his interest in planes until his death. In 2011, Menifee 24/7 published a story about a vintage plane Froehlich and friends were building in a hangar at French Valley Airport.

Froehlich was a widower the last seven years after the death of his wife of more than 60 years, Phyllis. He remained active in the community, conducting karaoke night at Menifee Lakes Country Club on Monday nights. He also entertained at Sun City Civic Association events.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the first Baptist Church, 29020 Murrieta Road in Menifee. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery at a later time.
