Motorcyclist Dies in Single-Vehicle Accident on Ortega Highway

A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle on Ortega Highway west of Lake Elsinore and crashed into a rock embankment.

According to a CHP report, the 37-year-old man from Lake Elsinore was traveling east on Highway 74 about 1.6 miles west of Grand Ave. He was making a right turn in the roadway when the motorcycle overturned and slid across the westbound lane and shoulder, colliding with the rock embankment.

The man, whose name was not released, was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with major injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.

This collision is under investigation. The involvement of alcohol/drugs is unknown at this time.
