Story updated at 8:15 a.m. Saturday:

A Menifee woman died Friday in a traffic accident on Antelope Road that involved five vehicles and closed a stretch of the road north of Scott Road for hours.

Emily Blake, 25, was pronounced dead on arrival at Inland Valley Medical Center, according to the Riverside County Coroner's office. According to authorities, she was the driver of a sedan that was struck head-on by another sedan. The accident was reported at 5:21 p.m. Two persons were reported trapped in vehicles when emergency crews arrived.

The Menifee Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Antelope Road. The vehicle crossed over the center lane and sideswiped a Hyundai Accent. This collision caused the southbound vehicle to lose control and collide with Blake's vehicle -- also a Honda Civic -- head-on. Two additional vehicles traveling northbound collided into each other while attempting to avoid the head-on collision.

The female juvenile driver of the southbound Honda Civic was critically injured and transported to a regional hospital. Blake was also transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The female adult driver of another vehicle involved in the collision was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The additional two drivers were uninjured.

The identities of the others drivers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This investigation is continuing and the Menifee Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision, to contact the Menifee Police Department Traffic Division, Deputy Cail, at 951-210-1000.

  1. I am so very sorry for the Blake family. Deeply saddened that such a wonderful girl that touched so many people is lost. I had Emily as a student when she was in 6th grade in Menifee. I remember her positive attitude, leadership and she always had a smile. She asked so little for herself and gave us so much having her at one time or another in our lives. Emily, you will be sincerely missed.

  6. I hope the police checked the young girls cell phone for texting. I did once to prove that my Great Granddaughter, who lived with me at the time, was texting while wrapping her car around a telephone pole. May Emily rest in peace. I feel so very bad for her.

  8. If texting or other type of distracted driving on the part of the young girl that caused this tragedy is involved, I sincerely hope that she is held accountable. Prayers are with the Blake family.

  9. So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with the Blake family.
I hope the driver who caused the accident wasn't texting but I have a nasty feeling it may well be the case. That's not a road full of blind curves that would catch anyone by surprise.

    RIP Emily
