More than 200 guests gathered at the Marion V. Ashley Community Center Saturday night to pay tribute to Mayor John Denver in the fifth annual Menifee Mayor's Ball.

City council members, candidates in the upcoming election and other local dignitaries -- including Ashley, Riverside County Supervisor in the 5th District -- celebrated Denver's year of service to the city. The theme of the program was "An Evening in Tokyo," in honor of the president of sponsoring organization Rotary International, Sakuji Tanaka.

Carol Sullivan, president of the Rotary Club of Menifee, was one of several women dressed in authentic Japanese kimonos. Mayor Denver joined in the festivities by wearing traditional male Japanese attire.

Dr. Jonathan Greenberg, superintendent of the Perris Union High School District and a Rotary club member, served as Master of Ceremonies. Dr. John Husing, a research economist based in the Inland Empire, was the keynote speaker.

  1. A great night for all and a success for the Rotary Club of Menifee. The Club is able to fund several of their local projects with the donations of the guests who attended the Ball.
Thank you for the support of the Rotary Club of Menifee and allowing us to continue to provide service above self. Red Sullivan, President
