Former Menifee City Council member and current Menifee Union School Board member Scott Mann has announced his intention to run for mayor in November.

Mann, 49, will oppose current city council member Darcy Kuenzi in the race for mayor. Voters will elect the mayor in at at-large vote to serve a two-year term. The other council members are elected in four separate districts.

"The current council majority has stifled public debate, lacks transparency, and has cultivated a perception throughout the community that city hall is unresponsive," Mann said in a press release.

This will be the first time the mayor will be determined by a popular vote rather than a vote of the council members. A 2010 referendum approved by voters changed the mayoral voting system in Menifee, which was incorporated in 2008.

Mann served two years on the first Menifee City Council before losing to Tom Fuhrman in 2010. He is a business consultant who spent 25 years in the Navy.

  1. Stifled debate? Anyone attending City Council meetings would realize that debate is very lively...to say it nicely.

    1. Dear Anonymous Coward:

He who hides his identity does so out of fear for rebuttal and consequences of his convictions. Scott Mann has never feared for his commitments, to my knowledge, among them responsibility for ferreting out the financial abuses by this current council and the prior band of which he was a critical member, until upset by a horsey opponent without credentials in leadership or compromise. Elect Scott and watch the response to wise and prudent electorates. Ken Woytek, citizen/veteran
