With Menifee growing in size, councilmembers Darcy Kuenzi, Sue Kristjansson, and planning commissioner Bill Zimmerman, took the time to hear from Menifee citizens on which direction they want the city to steer in.

Setting up a booth at the 4th of July festival held at Wheatfield Park June 30th, this team handed out over 500 informal surveys and received nearly 150 responses.

“This was really a great way to give candidates a chance to reach out and listen,” says Darcy Kuenzi, who is in the running for mayor in the upcoming election. “It gave us the opportunity to hear from residents and engage with them to see what they wanted to see next in Menifee.”

Along with the inclusion of basic information, the survey consisted of several basic questions: a list of services that citizens used, the importance of several issues in the community, and lastly, in five words or less what they wanted for, or expected from, the city at large.

Responses to this last question ranged from complaints about traffic and nearby bridges to the desire for more family oriented activities to become available nearby.

“We received a good blend of information,” stated Sue Kristjansson. “I was excited to see that a good amount of people were interested in the arts, so that is definitely something to keep in mind.”

Bill Zimmerman, who is also running for city council in the upcoming election, also noticed a trend in the responses they received. “People seemed very interested in entertainment and the amount of jobs available in the area,” he remarked.

Also available at the booth was the chance to enter a raffle for several prizes, including a cooler full of goodies, which was won by Menifee citizen Josh Hinman.

The results from this survey will give the entire staff a chance to dive deeper into the issues at hand as they prepare for their upcoming campaigns. This data will eventually be broken down into percentages to help understand the demographics of the area as well.

  1. I was impressed by the attention the candidates gave to the visitor to their booth. They all seemed to have a sincere desire to hear peoples' comments

  2. I wish I had known about our city's survey before it happened. Any chance for the same survey at a later date?

  3. Nice to have candidates who listen. We need a Trader Joes and entertainment like a bowling alley or movie theater. Tired of going to Temecula for this.

  4. We really need a bowling alley and also an ice skating rink and a roller skating rink...I am a senior citizen and have always bowled and would love a bowling alley..I have both adult children and young grandchildren and on the very hot days it would be nice to take them in air conditioning bowling, ice skating and roller skating...there are so many young families in Menifee now that we really need some active places to take them and from everyone I talk to they agree all of these places would be full...

  5. Sun City 'had' a bowling alley, and it closed bez of lack of customers, perhaps it will now be successful with young families in the area. However, does this generation go bowling? Ice skating and roller akating are something that was done in the 50'-70's, I think young folks of today want other activities that they can relate to. I think perhaps that would be something the council should do is put out a questionnaire to young folks that live here what they would like to see come here. You have a lot of young folks here at the college and our high schools, lets ask them. I would think movie theaters would be a hit here, water slide perhaps, I gave away my rollerblades long ago. we really need a very large park, full of tennis courts, racquetball courts, acquatic, horse back riding, trails, hiking paths, picnic areas for family and seniors as well, why can't we make this happen? What seems to be the delay in getting some land donated by a developer or someone living here that needs a tax write off?

  6. HOA's should be banned. If I wanted to live a socialist lifestyle I would move to another country.

  7. I think the booth was a success and based on the comments here it would be beneficial to provide a means and a venue to gather information.Perhaps a roving booth setup in strategic locations. The public meeting held by council member Kuenzi with the skate park demonstrates the effectiveness of an individual member of city government listening to the desires of the public.

  8. As an almost 21 year old, I think before we need "entertainment" or any more stores, we need a better way to get over the 215. I think that is more important having a Trader Joe's or a movie theater.

  9. A movie theater would be great, and well supported I'm sure!

  10. I thought a Movie Theater was going to be built where Wasted Spaces now sits. Oh I mean Living Spaces. We were extremely disappointment to have our Target moved to the other side of the freeway and then replaced by a huge furniture store. Now I have to take 15-30 minutes to get over that freeway overpass to get to any type of store that sells diapers, clean supplies, make up, batteries, gardening supllies etc. If a movie theater and been placed there at least there would of been type of entertainment given to folks on this side of the freeway.

  11. What we need are overland bridges that connect east to west with freeway access!!!
And honesly better communication between the ever growing young families who want entertainment and parks and the declining retirees/senior community that want to keep in the Lawerance Welk era.
Also more diversity in our city offices! Same people in different positions is evident to this minority...
