The Santa Rosa Academy baseball team lost their home game against San Jacinto Valley Academy Thursday afternoon, 13-4.

The visiting Wolves started out with two runs in the first inning on two hits and two walks against Rangers starting pitcher Jacob Dulaney. Santa Rosa didn’t put up any runs of their own in the next two innings -- though they left three total runners on base -- but held SJVA in that time.

That is, until the Wolves rallied in the third inning with five hits, bringing in five more runs.

This time, however, the Rangers had an answer with four runs in that inning on three walks, one error and two hits— including a double from Elijah Brewer and a single from Lucas Gomez-Creguer.

Those two batters would account for the only other Santa Rosa hits in the rest of the game, while San Jacinto Valley would have eight more base hits in the remaining innings -- most notably the fifth and seventh, which scored them six runs in total, making the final score 13-4.

Dulaney had three strikeouts with three walks and seven hits and was relieved on the mound in the third by Nate Bock, who recorded one strikeout with no walks and six hits in his respective two innings.

Brewer then came in as closing pitcher and threw two strikeouts with no walks and two hits to add to his own team-leading offensive performance of two hits and two RBI’s in the game.

Though Brewer had an individually decent outing, head coach John Trujillo said, for him, the game was unimpressive.

“I didn’t see any real highlights in the game,” he said. “They’ve done this lately where they can put a rally together in one inning but then something shuts down and we just have to figure it out.”

His team is now 4-10 overall, 0-3 in their last three outings. In those most recent losses, they have lost by an average of over nine runs.

Though he was concerned about where the slump may be coming from, Trujillo was confident that he and the team could turn it around.

“I’ve got to remind them what they’re good at and keep the mindset positive because they work so hard,” he said. “We’ve got to remind them that sometimes things don’t go the way they’re supposed to, but that they’re capable of bouncing back.”

The team’s next game and chance to bounce back will be Thursday at Temecula Prep at 2 p.m.
