This school year, Menifee 24/7 will honor deserving athletes in all varsity sports in season as Athletes of the Month. Each head coach is asked to select one athlete each month for this honor.

Because of our late start in initiating this program, the time period considered for the September Athletes of the Month was extended to include the first week of October.

Here are the September Athletes of the Month from Heritage High School:

Kenny Teter, football: The senior running back had a huge performance in the Patriots' 41-18 victory over Elsinore on Oct. 4. He rushed for 274 yards and three touchdowns, also catching four passes for 55 yards. Through his first six games, Teter had rushed for 891 yards and 8 TDs.

Taylor Freedland, girls golf: The Patriots' team captain led the lady Patriots with a team-low 42 on Sept. 24, helping Heritage improve to 9-0 this season.

Aleya Starnes, girls volleyball: The senior middle blocker has helped lead the Patriots to a 7-0 league record.

Hannah Ortega, girls tennis: The senior athlete was undefeated in league play through September and is an academic scholar, said coach Monty McIntosh.

Here are the September Athletes of the Month from Paloma Valley High School:

Dallas Salgado, football: Salgado (9, above) is averaging over 10 tackles per game and "has been the consistent leader of the defense," said head coach Tom Tello.

Gabby Hollins, girls volleyball:
Hollins is a team captain and the Wildcats' kill leader. Paloma Valley has a 23-3 overall record.

Daniel Montgomery, boys water polo: The senior captain is the team's starting set defender. He leads the team with 63 goals and 18 assists. "He is a great leader and student athlete currently holding a 4.2 GPA," said coach Lisa Sharp.

Samantha Avila, girls cross country:
"Samantha has been our top performer in the first part of our season," said coach Joe Ellett. "She has been a top 3 runner for us in each of our four races. Her training and racing is like a well-oiled machine: consistent and effective. As a sophomore, she has grown in leadership and confidence. With Sami, we know that we'll keep seeing improvement."

Here are the September Athletes of the Month from Santa Rosa Academy:

Timothy Marlow, football: Marlow has 301 yards total offense and six touchdowns so far for the Rangers, said coach Perry Jones.

Ariana Madrid, girls volleyball: Madrid is the captain of the team and leads by example, said coach Michael Mays. "She went the entire match against CMI and never got blocked," Mays said. "She is not only a skilled player, but also a smart player. She is a senior this year and plans to play volleyball in college.
