The Holy Fire was clearly visible heading downhill toward Lake Elsinore, as shown in this photo taken by California Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez from her back yard early Tuesday evening.

The Holy Fire became even more real to Menifee residents Tuesday night as flames crested the mountain and headed downhill toward Lake Elsinore.

Voluntary evacuation orders were given to residents of Horsethief Canyon and Glen Eden. The fire, reported as covering 4,000 acres on Monday, was updated to a reduced acreage of 3,999 after further study of mapping, fire officials said. It was only 5 percent contained by 10 p.m.

The fire began about 1:30 p.m. Monday in Holy Jim Canyon and Trabuco Canyon in Orange County. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
