Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select athletes based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Kevin Moscoso led his team offensively in the Norco Baseball Tournament. He hit three consecutive doubles for the Wildcats, who won the tournament Monday night with a victory over Temescal Canyon. The junior is hitting .409 this season with 15 RBIs.
Catcher Andy Otterson was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs in a 6-1 win over Lakeside last week. He has 10 RBIs this season.
Jemena Nesbitt won the 100 hurdles and placed third in the 30 hurdles in the girls track team's win over Elsinore last week. The week before, she won the 100 hurdles in a meet against Lakeside.
"Jemena has shown tremendous determination and drive, coming back from an injury that cut her junior season short and early season struggles this year," said her coach, Juan Merida. "Through her hard work and faith, she was able to find her form and battle back to win the 100 high hurdles race against Lakeside. Jemena has been a leader all season long and is one of our captains."
The doubles team of Caleb Yuan and Elijah Martinez is undefeated in league play for the boys tennis team. They won all three of their matches against Elsinore in a recent match.
"Elijah is a very busy young man; he also is the ASB Senior Class president," said his coach, Reagan Williams. "Elijah is an outstanding young man who makes it his business to meet everyone and make them feel welcome before and after he plays his tennis matches. Caleb is quiet but very thoughtful. He is also a Wildcat varsity basketball player, a champion chess player, and champion table tennis player when he is not catching up on all his AP homework."
Freshman swimmer Lorie Stuart won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in a meet against Elsinore. She also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. The 400 freestyle relay team set a school record in that victory.
Nate Rivas Blackwell had standout performances in wins against Heritage and Perris last week for the boys volleyball team.
"Nate brings a positive energy to the games and practices that elevates the rest of the team," said his coach, Katie Bradley. "We are very proud of his performance this week."
