News release from the City of Menifee regarding the Dec. 5 Christmas Tree Lighting celebration:

MENIFEE -- The community is invited to kick off the holiday season during Menifee’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting event.

The family event is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Menifee Town Center’s Great Oak Tree Roundabout, located on Town Center Drive at Newport Road, west of Interstate 215. Parking is available in a dedicated lot adjacent to the event on Town Center Drive.

The event is free, but attendees are asked to bring canned food for the Menifee Community Cupboard and unwrapped new toys for the Spark of Love toy drive.

In addition to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and highly anticipated Santa Claus arrival, the event has grown to include a snow zone for kids, an elves’ ornament workshop and the holiday movies "The Polar Express" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" featured on a large outdoor screen. Attendees should bring their own chairs and blankets for the movies and a camera for photos with Santa.

This year’s event also features entertainment including the Paloma Valley High School band and Heritage High School band. In addition, the St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church choir, the Wonderelles Holiday Revue and Arts Council Menifee will spread their holiday cheer from the entertainment stage. Local food and craft vendors will be available for snacks and shopping options.

"There’s something for everyone at this holiday party and we’re expecting it to be one of Menifee’s largest community events of the year," said Community Services Director Robert Lennox. "We’ve partnered with businesses and organizations in the community to bring more entertainment, more activities for kids and more holiday cheer. Our new location at the city’s landmark oak tree in Menifee Town Center offers plenty of space to accommodate the big turnout we’re expecting."

Community partners for this event include: The City of Menifee, Regent Properties, Menifee 24/7, CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department, Menifee Police Department, Waste Management, St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, Menifee Youth Advisory Committee, Lake Menifee Women’s Club, Arts Council Menifee, and the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce.
