The City of Menifee is accepting applications for two upcoming vacancies on the Planning Commission.
Each city council member is allowed to appoint one Planning Commissioner, and applications from the public are considered during that process. No experience in city government is required.
Current Planning Commission chair Matt Liesemeyer will conduct his final meeting next week and will be sworn in as a member of the City Council on Dec. 3. In replacing Tom Furhman on the council, he will then appoint a new Planning Commissioner by January. Mark Matelko was the previous Planning Commissioner appointed by Fuhrman.
In addition, returning City Council member John Denver must appoint a new Planning Commissioner because his previous appointee was Liesemeyer.
"I'd like to see us open the door to new people," Liesemeyer said, urging interested residents to apply for the position. "We don't have a lot of new people showing interest who are in tune with the community. At least personally, I'm looking for a new, fresh face.
"I'm not saying I'm looking for someone who represents development, rural or any particular interest. I just invite residents who care about the community to apply."
Residents can apply by completing the application that can be found here on the city's website, then returning it to the city clerk. According to the website, applications for positions on the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation and Trails Commission; and Senior Advisory Committee are being accepted until Dec. 12.
