Today’s eco-conscious property owner has several options to make their home or business more energy efficient, but the large upfront costs associated with home energy upgrades have caused many property owners to shy away from pursuing their dreams to be green.

Recognizing the need to expand the affordability and adoption of renewable energy and sustainable retrofits, the Western Riverside Council of Governments offers a program for property owners to finance clean energy upgrades through their property taxes. A solar lunch and learn is being held for local residents on Feb. 1 at 11a.m. in the Sun City library in Menifee to inform property owners about the details of solar technology, rebates and incentives, and the government financing program.

“The ability for homeowners in Riverside to finance sustainable upgrades through their property taxes is a game-changer,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of locally owned and operated Sullivan Solar Power. “Riverside has been leading the rest of the nation with this initiative, which has been providing significant value to Menifee and the surrounding communities.”

The innovative government financing initiative, called Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO), offers property owners low-cost and low-interest financing options for energy and water efficiency upgrades. HERO financing is repaid through an assessment on a home or business owner’s property taxes over 5 to 20 year terms. Other financial perks of the HERO program include no credit score requirement, fixed interest rates, tax write offs, and increased property value.

“The Inland Empire is in a privileged opportunity to transition itself from dependency on dirty foreign fossil fuels to clean, affordable renewable energy through the utilization of this innovative solar financing program,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan Solar Power is working in partnership with the HERO program to educate the local community on going solar through this unique program.

Property owners interested in learning more are encouraged to attend the free Solar Power 101 seminar on Saturday, February 1st at the Sun City Library from 11 am to 12 pm. The seminar will cover details of the HERO program and lunch will be provided. To RSVP for the seminar, or to learn more, call 1.800.SULLIVAN.
