  1. My stand on this is that they should NOT announce when any checkpoint is going to be in place. This is how you catch the law breakers.
What's the point in announcing it and then people will just avoid the area all together. This is about as stupid as announcing some big executive is going to tour your work facility and then everyone cleans up everything and the person does not get to see how it really works. I used to make surprise visits to my facilities and that is how I was able to really see what was going on and get it corrected and terminate people that were not following the rules.

  2. I agree, they should not post when and where but the ACLU says it is not legal because they seem to be picking on certain people, that's profiling, no that is catching criminals, period!!!

  3. These checkpoints are a gross abridgement of Indvidual Civil Liberties. Has Anonymous ever read the 4th Amendment? Ostensibly to stop DUI's, they are being used to enhance revenues and line the pockets of tow truck owners. This is in violation of the regulations of the Federal Agency that funds the checkpoints.

  6. They have to announce it to the public. Otherwise, it would be entrapment. Which is against the law.

  7. If you are breaking the law by drinking and driving and they catch you it is not entrapment. I'd love to see checkpoints every night right outside of every establishment that serves alchohol. It's simple, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! Look what just happened in Irvine by the drunk driver that was convicted multiple times prior and he now has killed someone.
If you drink and drive and have a bac of .08 or above and you are caught your license should be revoked permanently.
If our justice system does not start making punishment fit the crimes our society is going to continue to spiral downhill.

  8. Sorry Mike Jackson, you will have to drive drunk somewhere other than Menifee on Friday night.

  9. If you read the newspaper after these check points are done. They post what kind of violations that were given out. The minority is drunk driving. The majority is unlicensed, suspended license and no insurance or current registration.

  10. In reply to "Sorry Mike Jackson, you will have to drive drunk somewhere other than Menifee on Friday night":
I suggest you read the article in the SGV Tribune; the URL is posted above. BTW, I've never imbibed any alcoholic drink in my long life (almost 73 years)

  11. JD Dare is wrong. As a 40 year member of the ACLU, I know the organization does not determine what is "legal"; only the Judiciary determines the "legality" of any police conduct. The URL for SoCal ACLU is:http://www.aclu-sc.org

  12. Quoting Anonymous above: "They have to announce it to the public. Otherwise, it would be entrapment. Which is against the law." If you go to www.lawyers.com, you can become conversant with what "entrapment" really is.

  13. Entrapment is defined as: In criminal law, entrapment is constituted by a law enforcement agent inducing a person to commit an offense that the person would otherwise have been unlikely to commit.
With that being said, putting up a checkpoint and not announcing it would NOT be entrapment. Now, if the police gave the person alchohol and then gave them keys to go and drive and pulled them over, that's entrapment.
I hope this clears things up for those of you that do not understand the legal definition of entrapment.

  15. Like I said previously, checkpoint netted 1 DUI arrest. It towed 17 vehicles. 2166 vehicles went through checkpoint. 12 citations for unlicensed drivers, 5 drivers with suspended licenses and 1 for child safety seat violation.

  17. I have to say WHAT A WASTE OF TAX PAYER'S MONEY!!! This took place behind my house, really at Menifee and Newport...as someone mentioned it was the tow truck companies and court system that made any money...In that location they were not targeting DUI offenders...they need to decide on a new way to describe these checkpoints...go where people are leaving bars not housing tracks...get real Menifee

  18. Patti,
If they didn't have the check point and the drunk driver that was arrested, ended up killing your family, would you be singing the same tune?

  19. And what did it cost us? Had they held that same check point at Haun/Newport or Antelope/Newport they would have found more offenders. Lets get the records of who made profits...I'm in total agreement of getting DUI drivers off the streets, but when you use our tax payer's money...get smart about where to target those "DUI" drivers Mr. Anonymous
