Skateboard Park Wanted in Menifee

by Steve
4/10/2007 07:53:00 PM

We received the following e-mail from someone wanted a skateboard park in Menifee...
We need a concrete skateboard park in Menifee soon!!!!! There is nowhere for all the kids I see skateboarding to ride legally... Perris fairgrounds and Murrieta skatepark are lame designs and to far for the kids to get there.
Maybe someone from Audie Murphy Ranch can put in over there. I understand there's supposed to be a regional park planned there.

  • This has been an ongoing topic for years here in Menifee. The issue has been brought up to the Valley Wide Recreation Dept (Menifee) and although they felt it was needed, the idea of a Skate Park scared off many residents because of what they deemed "undesirables" in the type of kids it would attract.
I disagree and I am a Mom of 3 boys who have loved to skate board for the past 10 years. These kids have had numerous "S.B" parks available (Calvary Church/Ollie House) that were great, but have since closed up. I think liability is a huge issue as well.
People need to realize that this is not a "Fad". Skateboarding has been around for many, many years. Like all things, yes there can be bad elements, but for the most part, these kids just want a place to practice their sport.
I hope that somehow we can make this happen for the kids.

  • No thanks to a skate park in Menifee. Honestly, the kids that I see around Menifee that "skateboard" are dressed in black and look dirty. Sorry. I would never want my son to be a part of that.

  • I think it is so funny how the "generation gap" works !!! Dressed in black ?? Oh my.....look around....most teenage boys dress in black.....it's just their style, it doesn't mean they are dirty or bad kids.
Believe it or not, not all skateboarders are bad!!!! With proper supervision, a skate park could be a good thing for Menifee.

  • First of all, not all skaters dress in black. I'm a parent and I love to dress in black on some occasions. We can't judge people by what they wear or what they do. One of my children skates. He is a good student! I've observed him skate on several occasions and he seems very happy when he skates. I agree, "With proper supervision, a skate part could be a good thing for Menifee."

  • A skate park would be a nice thing to have in menifee...Oh and I do like to dress in black aswell...=0

  • Yeah, let's focus on the handful of kids who skateboard and ignore the thousands who do not. What about a sports park for everyone. What about a park that caters to many sports.

  • Funny how someone tries to express thier opinion and suddenly they are wrong. Opinions are just that.
No right, no wrong, just an expression of how an individual perceives things around them.
The first email that was posted even says the kids have no where to legally ride their skateboards. So let me correct myself.

Not only are the kids that skateboard around Menifee dressed in black, they look dirty, and they are skateboarding ILLEGALLY.

  • A skatepark is a brilliant idea! I am Principal of a school and would like to suggest we think about our kids for once! I am so tired of adults (those who know best) making decisions that are more for them than the benefit of the kids in our world. The more we provide for our kids to stay out of trouble, the more we promote their success in something. Skateboarding is NOT a bad thing. It is a sport and kids deserve the opportunity to have a place to be active and fit. Menifee is not exactly a metropolis---let's give our kids something. Afterall, we adults moved our families out here with nothing to do. With nothing to do and time on their hands, trouble will soon arrive. Then we must ask ourselves, "Is a skatepark really that bad." If we believe kids will be bad, then guess what--they will! I think it is time we as adults take responsibility for kids being successful---stop thinking about ourselves and be advocates for our kids, our future!!!! We don't want to be the grumpy adults we saw as kids!!! And remember---think about when you were a kid!

  • Yes. The principle is right. Sports are great for kids and many kids around here choose skateboarding as their sport.

  • From my personal experience, I have noticed that the kids that gather at skateparks are usually pretty good kids, and most of the time, they are being brought there by there parents.

I have a 6 year old son who has shown an apptitude for skating, I myself have never been a skater and find it hard to teach him the basics of skating, however bringing him to a skatepark has allowed him to network with other kids and get a better understanding of how to improve on his skillset.

If you dont allow them to skate in a legal supportive environment, they will just make their own skatepark out of your local shopping center, tainting their own reputation and perpetuating this idea that 'kids with skateboards dressed in black must all be hooligans'

I would challenge you to go to an existing skatepark and show me an example of one person who is being disrespectful or inconsiderate of others when there, it would seem they become more social and supportive of their peers, aren't these good qualities we should hope to instill in youth?

  • I think a skate park would be a great idea. Add it to a new sports complex that we need badly. My kids wear lots of black and skateboard. They are also honor roll students and they play youth sports. We have been to Real Ride Skate Park in Perris many times. I have yet to see bad behavior. I think more people should wear black, it makes you look thinner.

  • I agree with alot of the others!
Skating is a normal sport and Noone likes to see teenagers sketing around in the neighborhood so a skatepark would be a great idea!
It is a sport like any other one!

  • i think it would be great.. to have as many things for kids to do in our surrounding communities. i work at active in temecula.Ive skated for over ten years. And have rode for active the last three. I may be dirty and love to wear black. but thats my choice. i will agree it will bring some bad crowds. but if you raised your lilttle children well then you have nothing to worry about. let them make the right choices.

  • I agree with just about everybody here, except for the black clothes disliker. Kudos also to the 14 year old for speaking your opinion! My son has been skateboarding since he was pre-teen, and I have had to drive him all over the Inland Empire to skate "legally". He is now almost 18, and nothing has improved. He just got hassled by the police again last week at Walgreens in Sun City, for having his skateboard next to him while he was sitting on the bench, changing his shoelace. I had just purchased the shoelaces 5 minutes prior in Walgreens! He hadn't even ridden the skateboard yet. You should see the way some of the deputies treat our kids. I did! The kids get hassled constantly, almost daily! Where are they supposed to go? I definitely think Wheatfield Park would be a great place for a skatepark.

  • thank u to the person above i was think about the liabilty situation and i was wondering if it would be possible to see if a componey like active or zumiez could sponser the idea and help with insurence costs.

i dont know if this is a good or bad idea just a thought.

    thank u,
the 14 yr. old kid in black

  • I would just love to see the skaters leave my neighborhood. They are loud, rude, disrespectful and have foul mouths and when asked to move it somewhere else they dont. I've had one boy lie down in front of my car and tell ME to move out of HIS way. So I would LOVE to see a skate park go up just to get rid of these nuisances.

  • hey its the 14yr old again to the person above not all skaters r bad all kids get in to trouble im a skater i can be loud around freinds i appreciate you stateing your opinion as i state mine but you cant say you have never broken a rule or done something bad. all i ask as when your talking about one group of kids being trouble dont point at skateboarders

  • a skatepark would be cool
but bikes and scooters should be allowed because scooter and bikes out number skateboards in menifee

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 15, 2008 7:37 PM

  • My son and I frequent skateparks in Murrieta and Perris and I would love one to open up here in Menifee. The kids I come across at these facilities are doing something they enjoy and are hanging out a place where they can be themselves and are accepted. Too many people don't want to bothered by this "sport" so these people would oppose such a thing and my suggestions is simply, "Don't Go". My son is a 4.0 student and very well behaved. If wants to wear black, grow out his hair, and ride....then that is fine with me. There are worse things.

  • 14yr old aaaaaagain so i agree with the bike and scooter thing that woul be a great thing. i also understand that kids who sell drugs and do other bad things do tend to hang out at skateparks but i always see cops around menifee
and i know cops who are my neighbors that would be completely willing to patrol the skate park once and a wile

  • we need some more places for kids here in menifee. skate parks, movie theaters, learning center, something... they build all these houses and no place for kids. how boring and sad that is.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 09, 2008 11:59 PM

  • i have five boys who like to skate and we definately need a skate park

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 11, 2008 10:16 AM

  • I have to drag my son and his freinds to murrieta all the time. It would be wonderful is they could stay local and have fun without distructing others property and the schools. The park in murrieta is a bit small but the kids all get along and we have never had any problems. All they have to have is a board and a helmet and they are out of trouble, outside in the sunshine and having fun all at one time! As far as the black clothes, johnny cash wore black all the time and no one is bagging on him!!!!

  • I'd think it be great for our kids to have a skate park because you always see some kids getting in trouble and doing drugs[who knows what else]and with a skate park they would have something that they love.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at April 20, 2008 5:25 PM

  • Sorry folks, but Menifee could care less about your kids..look who sits on the City Council. There will never be issues concerning kids made first by your current Council..so move over Skateboard park or kids playground here comes another Single family development.

  • It is a sad day when our own cityhood cannot even think about the children.

October 1st Menifee will be even bigger. There are plenty of places for a skatepark.

I also predict that skateboarding could become an olympic sport in the coming years, just like bmx.

  • This is a continuing problem... Skateboarding is healthy, but teens seem to take a lot of heat for skating in public places. Anyways, why not visit my website..entrophy.drdavidxkolk.comwe sell half-pipe kits/grind rails, etc.. We even install if your located around the Inland Empire.. Thank you

  • hey im a kid who wants a skate park is ther any way we can petition or anything for a skate park

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 02, 2008 12:43 PM

  • If they put a skate park it will keep the kids off the public places and in the skate park because skaters have no place to skate that is legal
