News release from the City of Menifee:

MENIFEE --
The City of Menifee ceremoniously “broke ground” on its Lazy Creek Recreation Center renovation and expansion on Friday. This project marks an important milestone in the City’s ability to best serve Menifee youth.

The Lazy Creek Recreation Center has been in use for many years, dating back well before Menifee’s cityhood. During this time, it has served thousands of local youth who have participated in a wide variety of recreation classes and programming. The renovation and expansion will more than double the current size of the recreation center, adding an additional 2,400-square-foot building. It will have a courtyard with easy access to the indoor space, expanding the programming options at the recreation center. Work has now begun with the goal of opening to the public before the end of the year.

Menifee City Manage, Armando G. Villa shared that the groundbreaking is the first of 2021 with more on the horizon. “The City Council has made a commitment to the Menifee community to invest in public infrastructure,” Villa said. “This project today is the product of the effort of the City Council and staff and their commitment to invest in public facilities to improve services for our residents. This project is one of many projects you will see over the next three to nine months that we will be breaking ground on to improve services in Menifee.”

The City was honored to have 67th District Assembly Member Kelly Seyarto present at the groundbreaking. Seyarto expressed his support for the recreation center renovation and expansion project.

“Menifee is a growing community that prioritizes families and taking care of its youth,” Seyarto said. “This project is a big step by taking an old facility and renovating it and making it new for future generations.”

Mayor Bill Zimmerman, a longtime Menifee resident, said, “Over the years, Lazy Creek Recreation Center has been a place for our young people to enjoy life for many, many years. It brings me great joy thinking about all the Menifee youth this recreation center is going to serve in its expanded capacity.”

Zimmerman closed by congratulating Menifee residents on this project.

“This is your park and we hope you will enjoy it for years to come,” he said.

District 2 City Council member Matthew Leisemeyer expressed what an exciting time this is for the community.

“It is a proud day for Menifee, as these improvements will provide more opportunities for youth programming and we will be better able to serve residents for years to come,” he said.
