Menifee residents came out of their homes, some waving American flags, to greet patrol vehicles passing by with sirens blaring Tuesday night, announcing the coming of the new Menifee Police Department.

The department officially replaced the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at midnight as the law enforcement agency in Menifee. A parade -- conducted in six routes across the city -- included stops where police officers got out of their vehicles to interact with the community.

This type of "community policing" is an example of the theme established by Police Chief Pat Walsh. Details about the new police department can be found in this Menifee 24/7 article.

Here is a video of one of the six parades. Other videos can be viewed on the Menifee 24/7 Facebook page.
