Hot Air Balloon Gets a Little Too Close to the Freeway

4:20 p.m.: Story updated with additional information and photos.

Hot air balloons land in various places around Menifee, usually without incident. This one appears to be a bit too close for comfort to some major traffic. Menifee 24/7 reader Eric Russell took the above photo from the Scott Road bridge over Interstate 215 about 9:20 a.m. today. He said it appeared the balloon landed just a few feet from Antelope Road, just past the northbound on-ramp at Scott Road.

Michelle Child was driving past as the balloon was landing and her husband took some photos that show more detail of the incident (below). According to Michelle, there was a multiple-car collision on the freeway as drivers slowed to look at the balloon and get through the traffic congestion. There is no police report available regarding the collision at this time.
