Paloma Valley Survives Second-Half Mistakes, 49-42

Paloma Valley High School jumped out to a 42-7 halftime lead but just held on after a 35-point second half by host Perris Friday night, escaping with a 49-42 Sunbelt League victory.

The game included 10 turnovers -- six by Paloma Valley and four by Perris. The Wildcats' only score of the second half was a touchdown in the third quarter. Paloma Valley improved its record to 6-2 (3-0 in league) while Perris fell to 3-5 and 0-3.

Demarco Prewitt rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown, Dayday Lewis ran for 40 yards and two touchdowns, and Khayrii Joyner rushed for 94 yards and a score. But Paloma Valley finished with just 28 yards passing and couldn't get anything going offensively in the second half.

The Wildcats fumbled on five consecutive possessions in the second half. That resulted in four touchdowns for the Panthers to make it a close one at the end. Alvin Prigett rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown for Perris. Carlevon Manuel passed for 134 yards and 3 TDs.

Paloma Valley will play host to crosstown rival Heritage next week in what has come to be known as the Menifee Bowl. Heritage is undefeated this season.
