Groundbreaking held for luxury senior living facility

A groundbreaking ceremony was held just north of the Oasis retirement community on Antelope Road Thursday, celebrating the upcoming construction of WellQuest Living of Menifee Lakes, a $27 million luxury senior living community.

The facility, expected to be completed in early 2021, will offer independent living, assisted living and memory care for seniors. It will include 116 apartments ranging in size from 400 to 1,100 square feet, with amenities including a swimming pool, theater, restaurant style dining, fitness equipment and a pet play area.

The site is a vacant lot just north of Aldergate Drive and the entrance to the existing Oasis senior community. Consolidated Contracting is in charge of construction for WellQuest, a Salt Lake City-based company that builds several such facilities in Southern California.

"Our Director of Development, Charlene Kussner, lives in Canyon Lake," explained Steve Sandholtz, CEO of WellQuest. "She has been working this site for years before we got here. We identified this as a good market area for us, and she began pursing entitlement of the site.

"With the growth of Menifee, and with the Oasis right here, this is a fantastic location."

WellQuest operates 600 units in Pasadena, Fountain Valley and Woodland Hills, Sandholtz said.

Joe Troya, Consolidated Contracting principal, was also present at the groundbreaking, which was attended by Menifee Mayor Bill Zimmerman, City Council member Lesa Sobek, and other city officials.

"We are very excited about this project," Troya said. "I feel it fits in well with our company values, especially as it relates to giving back to the community. I believe this project will make a difference to seniors in Menifee and the surrounding area."
