Movies In The Park Tomorrow Night

by Bryan
6/26/2008 01:33:00 PM

Tomorrow night at La Ladera park, "Movies in the park" will be hosting another show. Remember the famous movie quotes "E.T. Phone Home", or "Ellliiioooootttt". Well you will get a chance to relive all of those fond memories you had seeing E.T. in the movie theaters.

You will also have a chance to allow your kids to experience E.T. for the first time! I remember it well, watching it on the big screen for the first time. Yes, the graphics were a bit cheesy back then, but the movie was definitely ahead of its time.

So we'll see you there at La Ladera park at dusk for the show!

by Steve
2/14/2008 08:17:00 PM

Due to last year's huge success of the Movies in the Park events, which were organized by the Riverside County Economic Development Agency, the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce is jumping on board to sell vendor booths.

Local area businesses are being sought to purchase a vendor space on site.

There will be four movie events this year, all being hosted at La Ladera Park. Businesses and organizations interested in purchasing a vendor space must commit to buying a space at all four events.

Dates for the movie events are: May 23, June 27, July 25, August 22. These are all Fridays.

A 10ft by 10ft space is going for $50.00 per movie event, or $35.00 if your business is a member of the Chamber. You can also purchase a banner at the event for $25.00

Food vendor booths have higher fees, $75.00, or $50.00 for Chamber members.

Non-profit organizations can get booths for $35.00, or $25.00 for Chamber members.

Vendors must provide their own tables and equipment. No electricity provided.

Gang Activity at La Ladera Park

by Steve
1/09/2008 07:55:00 PM

A Menifee 24/7 reader submitted the following comment today an older post of mine regarding their son mugged by some guys near La Ladera Park, in the Menifee Hills community...
Hmm sounds like we have alot of bickering going on- let's get back to providing a safe neighborhood for kids. If you think it isn't a problem let me tell you what happened last night.

My 24 year old son was walking to work at about 8 PM last night (please don't need any comments about why walking at 8 pm at night- we should be able to do this anytime) and he was robbed by 3 hispanic males ranging from 17-24 (again no one is stereotyping so please no discussion about this). Do you still think there is no problem?

One of them had a knife and he was surrounded since they jumped out of the bushes. It was the street right before the one that La Ladera Park is on ( the one that goes to the elementary school ). I also drove by the park today at about 3 pm and there were a group of males easily over 18 all of them with the clothes and bandanas .They also stared at me like I was invading there space.

I grew up in Tracy California where there was activity like this but much worse. I remember having to have about 5 friends to accompany you to class because gangs would pick on you if you only had 1 or 2. They would travel in gangs of 10 or more and harass people all the time- that is only if these gangs (cowards) seen you had 1 or 2. They wouldn't bother you unless they had an overwhelming odds-again cowards.

I won't let this happen to my kids. If you care about the community and ensuring these people don't invade our community then please respond. If you have negative comments or criticisms please keep them to yourself only positive ones that will help. Thanks.

Gang Activity in Menifee Hills

by Steve
8/11/2006 11:55:00 AM

An anonymous commenter wrote a response to one of Eric's previous posts, concerning what he/she perceives as increased gang activity in Menifee Hills, along La Ladera Road.

I'm posting it here as a new article because it deserves separate discussion...

Hello fellow Menifee residents:

I am extremely concerned with alot of bad activity occurring in the La Ladera residential area. I have been noticing an increase in off road vehicles, dirt bikes, mini bikes, lifted golf carts, dune buggy's etc. in the area. Mainly around the residential tracks and the La Ladera race strip that runs in between them.

This occurs on a regular basis. These off road vehicles are zipping up and down the 25 MPH zones, where our children play, couples are walking and vehicles travel in and out of driveways. These vehicles are exceeding the speeed limit, exceeding the maximum paasnger occupancy on the off road vehicle and usually has a drunk behind the wheel. I've seen guys drinking in golf carts, doing donuts, speeding and driving through home front lawns.

I have also noticed an increase in graffitti, gang activity and some really strange kids in the area. Itis a mix of gang banger types and punk rocker types. I watched a gathering of approximatley 10-20 thugs at the La Ladera Park after 10 p.m. wearing bandannas, baggy pants, sunglasses at night and low rider cars. I have also watched kids walking with mohawks, shaved heads, military boots, tight pants with jackets that have metal spikes on them. These kids were hitting mail boxes in the area with sticks and shouting profanity and anti-government slander as they did it.

What the heck is happening to our neighborhood? What have we created or allowed to polute our nice family oriented small town? I have peronnaly encountered several near accidents involving small children and vehicles with these off road vehicles. We as a community need to work together and not be afraid of these things. CALL THE POLICE when you see this happening! This is uncalled for and not nessasary. It is making our property value go down and endangering the life of our families and property. Stand Up and take action as a community! Who wants to be the one who has a child get hit by a dirt bike or golf cart? Or the one, who's house got tagged? Or the one who's vehicle gets stolen? Lets get this trouble out of here!

Thanks.
In my response to this person, I've seen the people described above. I don't think there is anything that we've done as a community to invite gangs. I think gangs are always looking for new places to call home, and the Menifee Hills community is a new community, having begun construction only five years ago.

I recall reading about new gangs moving into Menifee in the newspaper, but in the older communities. Now that Menifee Hills is pretty well established, it's perhaps no surprise we're now seeing them here.

Moreover, just because people have mohawks and wear bandanas doesn't mean they're gang members. Most of these people are just youths looking for an identity. Teenage-troublemakers have been around for as long as there have been teenagers.

As a solution, I propose homeowners in Menifee Hills (of which I am one), spend more time outdoors, in the community, making yourselves known. What troublemakers do not like, are lots of people watching them. Take your dog for a walk every day, or ride your bicycle around the neighborhood, take your kids to La Ladera Park, or just sit on the front porch and relax. The more people we have outdoors in the neighborhood, the less gang activity we're going to have.

I do agree that we should call the Sheriff's office to report all such illegal behavior, even though we know they're not going to respond. The Sheriff needs to see the calls in order to know that he can't ignore this community.

I received the following question from Crystal Hoyes regarding La Ladera Park...
My mother and I walk the track at La Ladera Park every morning and we where just wondering if anyone knew the length of the track (for example wither its 1/4 of a mile 1/2 of a mile). If anyone is able to answer our question it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!
If someone knows the answer, please post a comment below.

Menifee is Growing

by Holly
7/30/2005 12:07:00 PM

I think it is great that so many people are writing to this site.
I have lived in Menifee since 1992, when there was nothing here. Everyone wanted amenities, but I think we all forget how much traffic, trash, accidents and etc. it all brings. I recently got an email from a developer wanting to know how to use his park space. He had contacted AYSO and others. I told him we needed soccer, baseball, basketball fields and nice parks. The parks we now have do not accomodate enough people. The park on La Ladera is going to be an excellent addition. I can't wait for it do be done, since I live near it.
We not only need parks, but like it has been said, we need law enforcement. We need a boys and Girls Club. We need to start getting the amenities that Temecula has. We need to become a CITY. We need to have our own High School. Lets make Jeff Stone aware that the residents want these things.
On another note, I have heard that a new middle school will be built behind the new Park on La Ladera. In the Audie Murphy Ranch project.

La Ladera Park - More Info

by Steve
7/16/2005 04:44:00 PM

La Ladera ParkHere's more information on the La Ladera Park currently under construction, at the corner of La Ladera Road and Country Fair Drive, in the Menifee Hills development.

La Ladera park was funded by CSA 145 funds. It has 8.3 acres. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in April, 2005 and it is scheduled to open by October 2005. It has 2 tot lots for different age groups, a softball field with an inlay soccer field, a basket ball court, a tennis court, a walking trail with exercise stations, a picnic area with barbeques and shade structures.

The graphic to the right is a thumbnail image of what the park will look like. Click the image to see a larger display. You can also download the PDF file of this drawing, and expand it even more to see the intricate details.

Thanks to Julie Johnson, of the Menifee-Sun City Chamber of Commerce for getting this information to us.

La Ladera Park

by Steve
3/10/2005 10:04:00 PM

Last month Holly reported that she talked with Jeff Stone's office and learned that a ground breaking ceremony would take place in April for the new park on La Ladera street, in the Menifee Hills development.

Well, ground has already been broken. Yesterday bull dozers began working, and today they pretty much leveled off the ground. Perhaps the ground breaking ceremony will still take place, but it will only be symbolic.

I remember going to a hearing on this a couple years ago in the Kay Ceniceros Center. The hearing was to get public opinion on what features the park should contain. Opinions were generally divided between "park only" and "sports park". The folks who live in the Menifee Hills development want a simple park with some benches and a kids play area. While folks who lived elsewhere wanted some kind of sporting venue, like a soccer field, baseball field, basket ball courts, or something similar.

Residents of Menifee Hills argued that a sports park would bring lots of cars and people. They also noted that a sports park will most likely have night-time lights, and they didn't want any of that. Folks who lived elsewhere argued that there are not enough places to play sports.

But county officials at the meeting also noted that the Audie Murphy development located on the opposite side of Newport Road, near Goetz Road, will contain a regional park, with baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, and the whole nine yards. If that's the case, then La Ladera Park can just be the grassy area with jungle gyms that neighbors want.

But they've been planning Audie Murphy for years now, and they're still seemingly nowhere.

Myself, I don't really care what they put in La Ladera, as long as they put something in there. I happen to live in the Menifee Hills development, but I live far enough from it that I won't be bothered by the additional traffic, noise, and lights. I know that some of my neighors won't like that sentiment. As it stands now, that lot is used by noisy dirt bikes, ATVs, and contractors dumping excess dirt. I'll be glad to see those go. And just having some kind of park there will improve the saleability of homes in that development.

Just put something there, quick.

New Park In Menifee

by Holly
2/22/2005 04:03:00 PM

I have just got off the phone with Jeff Stone's Office. He is our County Supervisor. I called in regards to the park that was supposed to be built off of La Ladera Road in Menifee. They informed me that they are having a ground breaking ceremony in the beginning of April 2005. This is good news to anyone involved in youth sports. We are in desperate need of playing fields for soccer and baseball. Both the Menifee Valley Little League and Menifee AYSO are raising money to purchase their own land.

I believe all of these new home developers should be footing the bill for these facilities, and not by attaching Mello Roos to the Homebuyers. They are bringing in all of the new people to Menifee Valley.

If any one has 10 acres that they would like to lease to the Little League, please email me.
