Heritage High Hosts First Ever Varsity Football Game

by Steve
9/16/2008 09:16:00 PM

Justin Marquis, assistant football coach at Heritage High School submits the following announcement concerning the first ever varsity football game hosted at the school...
We'd like the people of Menifee to know that Heritage High School will be hosting their-first ever varsity football game this Friday, September 19th at 7 p.m. against Lakeside. The game will be the first official varsity event in our brand new 4k seat stadium, named for Marion Ashley. There will be a parade of flags presented by the American Legion at halftime as well as a performance by our Might Patriot Regiment Marching Band - and we hope a pretty good football game to boot. Heritage is located on the corner of Hwy 74 and Briggs Rd.

Our stadium dedication will take place on Friday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. when we play host to the Beaumont Cougars. Mr. Ashley will be on hand as the stadium officially takes on his name. From more info about Heritage Football and to see our complete season schedule, go to www.heritagefootball.net

Thanks,

Justin Marquis

Student's mother killed in car crash outside Heritage High School

by Holly
5/16/2008 11:17:00 AM

By JULISSA McKINNON and SARAH BURGE
The Press-Enterprise

ROMOLAND - The students and staff of Heritage High School were still reeling Wednesday after a car wreck near the school's entrance Tuesday left one freshman volleyball player and her younger sister severely injured and their mother, a well-known school volunteer, dead.

Terri Keller was leaving Heritage High after picking up 14-year-old Alexis Keller from volleyball practice when their SUV was struck by a suspected drunken driver, authorities said. Keller was driving on Briggs Road through the busy intersection with Highway 74 about 5:20 p.m. when a Ford F-250 traveling east on Highway 74 ran a red light and broadsided them, a California Highway Patrol news release said.

Several students said they witnessed the crash, which some said sounded like a "bomb" or an "explosion," as they waited for rides home.

Bill Gould on Menifee Cityhood and Unification

by Steve
11/03/2007 08:00:00 PM

Bill Gould, a local businessman living in the Heritage Lake development, and who is also campaigning for a seat on the Romoland School Board, writes today on his blog that he's in support of Menifee cityhood...
I am 100% for city hood. Incorporation of the area will give us control over future development, funding that the development brings, parks, police, fire, code enforcement, community services department and so much more. Take a drive around the city of Temecula one day, it is an excellent example (minus the traffic, I know) of a great city and I would love that for our community. Fortunately for us we already have a better road system than Temecula did when they incorporated!
Heritage Lake is included in the proposed borders of Menifee. Currently, it is part of Romoland.

I had hoped to hear from others who live in Romoland about their thoughts on becoming a part of Menifee. Please post a comment.

Interestingly, Gould also says he's in support of "Unification", but not with respect to Paloma High School, but rather, Heritage High School. That is, folks out there are apparently talking about moving the new Heritage High School into the Romoland School District.

If you consider the Unification issue with Paloma High School, proponents argued that because the high school is located in Menifee Valley, and serves primarily Menifee residents, it makes sense to "unify" it with Menifee Union School District.

So, can we say the same thing about Heritage High School? It is located within the proposed borders of Menifee. It's serving students in Menifee, as far south as Menifee Lakes. I don't have the statistics on this, but I'm wondering if most of its student population resides in the proposed borders of Menifee. I'm kinda thinking it should be in Menifee Union.

The problem with bringing it into Menifee Union is that Menifee Union's borders don't extend out to Heritage High. Even though the borders of the proposed city includes Heritage High, the school district itself doesn't reach that far. So, to move it into Menifee Union, LAFCO would have to approve a change of borders. That probably won't happen.

Heritage High School's New Football Team

by Steve
5/11/2007 09:27:00 PM

Heritage High School PatriotsJustin Marquis, one of the teachers at the new Heritage High School, wrote to me this evening to tell me about the high school's football team, and it's new website...

http://www.heritagefootball.net

He says they are trying to raise money for the football team, and are selling sponsorships. Here's what he said...
Our head coach Kraig Broach is really excited about the school, the football program and the community. It's his mission to incorporate our football program into the community and make it a source of pride for area residents that have, up till now, been split by three or four schools.

I am asking for your help in getting the word out about Heritage football. We have created a website, www.heritagefootball.net and we were hoping you could post it on your website.

In addition to the website, we will be holding a fundraiser this summer where we will sell banners to our sponsors to be hung up and displayed at our stadium for all to see. Our stadium should be a top-notch facility with the ability to seat up to 5k people when completed. Our goal is to have the people at our games exposed to area businesses on the banners, and bring that sense of community even closer to home. We're also looking at allowing area businesses to create ads to display on our main website page.
You can contact Kraig Broach at...
- phone #760-525-0966
- email ktkfamily@verizon.net

Heritage High School

by Steve
2/26/2007 06:08:00 PM

The Perris Unified School District has figured out which kids will have to attend the new Heritage High School, located on Hwy 74, in Romoland.

If you live in Menifee, on the eastern side of I-215, north of Craig Road, you'll have to send your kids there. This is starting next season.

The Press Enterprise has an article on this, and a map showing the boundaries (outline in red)...

http://www.pe.com/localnews/hemet/stories/PE_News_Local_H_bound22.1b76376.html

Unfortunately, the Press Enterprise requires people to establish an account with them to read the article online. The good news is that it's free.
