2 Fires in Menifee Wednesday

by Bryan
7/10/2008 08:57:00 AM

If you were driving anywhere in Menifee yesterday, you would have seen plumes of smoke rising into the sky coming from the Bundy Canyon area. Not to worry, as bad as the smoke looked, they were small fires that were put out before they caused any major damage.

Here is the article with a video

Governor Gets Tough on Weeds

by Steve
5/09/2008 04:00:00 PM

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, today, instructed state fire officials to fine rural homeowners who fail to clear their properties of brush, trees and dry grass.

He's citing the dry conditions throughout the state as a sign that this year we could see more widespread fires.

A 2005 law required that homeowners who live near forests or grasslands increase the so-called "defensible space" around their houses from 30 feet to 100 feet.

Fines can range from $100 to $500. If homeowners still refuse, officials can clean up the property and send them the bill.

Yet Another Sun City House Fire

by Steve
1/15/2008 01:59:00 PM

Yesterday, fire fighters responded to a call over a residential fire in Sun City.

The call came in at 11:37am, and was focused on a single-family home at the 27000 block of Lexington Ct. The fire was limited to the bedroom. The residents were not displaced.

The fire department reports the cause is still under investigation.

This is the fourth residential fire in Sun City in the last 20 days, at least those reported by the Riverside County FD.

I'm not certain the cause of any of these fires, but I wonder if the fact that temperatures have dropped into the 30s, may have caused people to rely on portable heaters, considering homes in Sun City are 40-50 years in age. And maybe these heaters are too close to other fabrics.

Fire Victims Charity Drive a Success

by Steve
10/27/2007 02:26:00 PM

The Fire Victims Charity Drive that we announced earlier this week was a big success according to Jackie Dunagan, the gal who helped organize it.

She sent us the following message...
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING OUR DRIVE ON YOUR WEBSITE!!!! IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS AND I KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE USING THE LOCAL WEBSITES FOR INFO. AT LEAST. I KEPT ASKING HOW DID THEY KNOW WE'D BE OUT THERE AND THEY WOULD TELL ME WHAT WEBSITES THEY SAW IT ON. THAT IS EXCITING. I WAS HOPING THAT YOU WOULDNT MIND POSTING THE RESULTS? IF SO,

The Menifee Predators would like to thank everyone that was able to come out and help with the Fire Relief Drive ... it was a huge success!

Once all was said and done we filled up 20 pallets (3 boxes high) and donated a little over $700 in cash.

The Predators Thank everyone that donated clothes, food, toys and hygiene items!

For only two days notice and a two hour effort we really stepped up as a league and community to support our families and neighbors!

In particular we would like to make sure the Knott Family know the support their whole family provided with working at Ralphs, to providing use of their two trucks and trailers was huge in making this happen. We would not have been able to get everything delivered in the middle of the night without them...

Thank you to everyone who assisted, contributed, and supported us!
It was an amazing experience and I am personally proud now to live in MENIFEE.

thanks again!
Jackie Dunagan
Thanks to everyone who donated and especially to Jackie and the rest of the Predators team for making it happen.

Paloma Math Teacher Escapes Fire

by Steve
10/26/2007 12:02:00 PM

Lisa James, a math teacher at Paloma Valley High School, writes on her blog about how she fled her home in Del Dios when the Witch Fire blazed through her neighborhood...
A police officer drove slowly up the street, yelling into a bullhorn: "You must evacuate immediately!" I woke up Craig and Wendy and in less than 30 minutes we had packed our treasures and necessities (including the Mac laptop and hard drive with Defying Gravity files), our 3 dogs and 1 cat, and thrown them into the little R.V. We headed to the coast and then started driving North. I wanted to get as far away from San Diego County as possible.
Luckily, her home survived the fire. But her neighbors' homes around her did not.

Thank You Firefighters!

by Steve
8/01/2007 11:29:00 AM

I just realized that I had not published a big thank you to the firefighters who put out the fire in Menifee, and kept it from becoming a lot worse.

Thank you firefighters!
Now's the time to direct your attention to Menifee's very own Country Music recording artist, Michelle Crowley, and her song "Heart of a Hero", dedicated to the firefighting men and women...

Click on the photo to see a larger size.

It was sent into us from Eric Madrid, who writes stuff for us once in awhile, and who also publishes his own Menifee website: http://www.cityofmenifee.com

Nothing like a fire to get people out to socialize.

Fire Puts Menifee on the Map

by Steve
7/31/2007 10:20:00 AM

Nothing like a 120-acre brush fire to put a sleepy little town on the map.

Since the fire has been extinguished, the photos and videos are making their way around the Internet.

I happened to find this one from Bill Gould...

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/30/ireport.west.fires/#cnnSTCVideo

This is the same Bill Gould that operates Full Value Entertainment, a local band agent, as well as his publication, "Full Value Review". He captured the billowing smoke on his camcorder, and submitted it to CNN, which subsequently plastered the video on their homepage to a billion viewers worldwide, depicting Menifee as exactly what the world thought: a paradise of single-wide trailers and dead weeds.

He writes on his blog that he plans to use events like this towards putting the Inland Empire on the map...

This 'next step' in opening up the Inland Empire to the outside world comes in the wake of a number of major stories broken (scooped) by the Full Value Review and many others that have been reported by the mainstream press after being first informed by The Review.
So now that the world has this "first hand impression" of Menifee painted into their minds, people will tell me, "Oh, you live out there."
