Store Robbers Arrested in Menifee

by Steve
1/16/2008 06:55:00 PM

Four people taking part in the armed robbery of an AM/PM store in Wildomar, early this morning, were apprehended in Menifee, at the corner of Murietta Rd and Bundy Canyon Rd. Below is the report from the Sheriff...

On January 16, 2008, about 12:20 A.M., Riverside County Sheriff's deputies from the Lake Elsinore Station were called to the AM / PM Convenience Store, located in the 33000 block of Orange St. in Wildomar, regarding a robbery that just occurred.

Store employees told the deputies two masked suspects armed with handguns stole an undisclosed quantity of money from the store cash register at gun point. The suspects then fled the store with the money. Arriving first at the store (and within 1 minute of the call), Riverside County Sheriff's Corporal Scott Spykstra saw a silver 1997 Mitsubishi Galant 4-door speeding from the scene eastbound on Bundy Canyon Rd. with its lights off.

Corporal Spykstra followed the Mitsubishi to the intersection of Bundy Canyon Rd. and Murrieta Rd. in Menifee, where he was assisted by other Lake Elsinore and Perris Station deputies in stopping the automobile. A total of 4 suspects were arrested without further incident at that time. 2 handguns used during the robbery were found following the stop, and the stolen money was recovered from the suspects.

Arrested on multiple felony charges in connection with this incident were Sergio Santoyo, age 21 of Santa Ana, Raeleen Rodriguez, age 25 of Fullerton, Annette Marrufo, age 27 of Bellflower, and Cassandra Walton, age 22 of Fullerton. All 4 suspects were subsequently booked at the Riverside County Sheriff's Robert Presley Detention Center. Deputies learned Santoyo, Marrufo, and Walton are convicted felons currently on parole through the State of California's Department of Corrections. They were additionally booked on felony parole violation charges.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this armed robbery is asked to call Riverside County Sheriff's detectives at (951) 245-3300.
How fortunate that in this case, Corporal Spykstra was able to respond within 1 minute of the call.

Menifee Sales Tax Delinquents

by Steve
5/07/2007 09:37:00 AM

The Californian has an article today about local businesses who have collected sales and use taxes from its customers, but have failed to pass them on to the State of California.

Among the biggest delinquents in the entire state, two of them are here in Menifee...
  1. O'Neil Group Inc. - DBA "Menifee Marketplace" - located at 26825 Newport Rd. (View map of this address) Owes $430,393.31.

  2. Tarnutzer Toys LLC, - DBA "Mega Micro", located at 25657 White Aspen Cir (View map of this address) Owes $381,674.28.
These are just the biggest delinquents, defined as those owing more than $100,000. There could be many more in the Menifee Valley owing less.

The State of California published a list of the biggest sales tax delinquents identifying them by name and address, in hopes of embarrassing them into compliance.

You can view the entire list online at...

Menifee Market Busted for Selling Booze to Kids

by Steve
3/26/2007 09:44:00 AM

The Riverside County Sheriff published a press release stating that their efforts to stop sales of alcoholic beverages to minors proved successful in the bust of Menifee Market, on 26035 Scott Road.

The following is the press release...
On Friday, March 23, 2007, Deputies from the Southwest Station in conjunction with the State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control agents conducted the one of several planned surveillance operations focused on minors purchasing alcohol products at local retail establishments in the Menifee and French Valley area.

On Friday, around 9:15 PM, they observed a minor purchasing alcohol at Menifee Market, 26035 Scott Road. The owner of the business, Yasir Harb, 47 years old, of Romoland, was cited for 25658(a) B&P, selling alcohol to a minor. Harb could face fines and or community service. In addition the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control will take administrative action against the business's liquor license that may include a fine, a suspension of the liquor license or the permanent revocation of the license

We would like to again thank the merchants of the county areas that are not selling alcohol to minors. Their continued support of the well being of the youth in our community is appreciated. The Southwest Station's efforts to deter the unlawful sales of alcohol products, and gain compliance by all merchants will continue and more programs will be conducted on a regular basis.

If citizens observe juveniles purchasing tobacco or alcohol, they are encouraged to call the Southwest Station's non-emergency number 696-HELP and report the incident.
This doesn't say anything about the parents or guardians who didn't know (or knew) their kids were buying booze.

Also note that this press release said that the bust of Menifee Market was just one of several planned surveillance operations in Menifee and French Valley. If you're a store owner with a liquor license, you're being watched.

More Car Vandalism in Menifee

by Steve
11/16/2006 01:38:00 PM

I wanted to pass along some reports of car vandalism in Menifee.

The first is an e-mail from Sabrina, concerning car windows bashed in during Halloween...
Is it just my street? I live on Ridgemoor Rd. and yet again our street has been hit by the window bandits.

These bandits break car windows that are left parked on the street.

So far cars parked in their driveways seem to be spared. The trend seems to be on a holiday weekend. I’m wondering if

it's out of town visitors who hit and get sort of speak. This last round was on Halloween and the time before was 4th of July.

I'm just curious if others are experiencing window bandits in your neighborhood.
Another report was posted online on another blogger's website...
Well it was an act of vandalism and the guy said over this weekend there was 11 incidents of slashed tires in Menifee/Miralago alone... So yeah WTF! last time they were nice enough to leak my tires and leave a note of hatred >__<
Back in July 2005 we reported another incident of smashed car windows. Click here to read.

The San Jacinto College Campus Police doesn't venture out into the western side of Menifee where Ridgemoor Rd is. We gotta get more cops on the street. I'm siding more and more with Menifee Cityhood, and getting our own law enforcement.

Introduction / Observation

by Mac
8/17/2006 09:24:00 AM

I am Mac, the newest staff writer on the ever evolving Menifee 24-7 site.

A big thanks to Steve for giving me a chance to share a few words with you all.
Introductions are great and I am really glad to meet you but you know what? I came here to say a few things so lets move on to that.

Menifee is a great place. Not a bad area at all, in fact it is probably a hundred times better then a lot of other places I have lived. In general there aren't many complaints discussed when I take the time to visit with my neighbors. Nothing out of the ordinary. "Sometimes people drive too fast..." "People leave trash around..." etc...

Small time stuff.

Something different has been mentioned recently though, and after I took a moment to investigate I found it to be true. (This story could probably be more elaborate but for the sake of length I will cut to the chase) There is a certain amount of drug dealing going on at the fast food establishments off of the corner of Newport and Antelope. Namely inbetween Taco Bell and Jack in the Box.

It is a nightly thing and our local police have been notified but have yet to act on it. (This is starting to sound like the previous post)

These kids are underage, out at 12AM and later, and just sitting on the tail gate of their truck in between the two restaurants for hours at a time dealing and our local law enforcement has yet to get them to move on.

This is bad enough, but I happen to believe in live and let live. I don't agree but I don't force beliefs on anyone either.

Mind your own business and all that.

Where my opinion starts to change is recently these kids have turned to a certain level of violence against some rival kids. (Including threats on their life)

One night this escolated in my own neighborhood and caused me and a few other local homeowners to call the police when the fight came to my yard. (Did I fail to mention they had baseball bats?) The police came, talked to the boys and let them all go.

Wow. What does it take to get these things looked in to? I just don't know.

I hope you have a clue because I am starting to think the local law enforcement does not.

My car was found!

by Eric
7/20/2006 11:15:00 PM

After 17 days, my car was found in Temecula. Not too bad of shape! Only trashed a little! My CD changer was still present although our portable DVD player for the kids was taken. It appears that the thief was using it to commit other crimes. There were 2 briefcases in my truck belonging to Temecula residents. The thief even left a 7 inch blade on my passenger seat. The Temecula police had the car taken to the tow yard and simply left the stolen items, including the knife in my car. When my wife went to drop the items back off at the police station off Auld Rd- the officer reluctantly took them from her and informed her that they would try and contact the people but that it was not high priority since they were understaffed. I guess catching these criminals, who are likely responsible for multiple thefts, is not a prioritiy.

Other than this event, I would say that Menifee is an excellent community and I am happy we moved here. I would not change a thing! We are an up and coming city and will become one of Southern California's nicest I am sure!

PS: Did you all see the article in the Californian Newspaper re: our future city being called "Menifee Valley?". There is a link at www.cityofmenifee.com

My Car Was Stolen in Menifee

by Eric
6/17/2006 12:22:00 PM

Just a note to my Menifee neighbors! My Maroon 99 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition was stolen from my driveway this AM. Our home is near Wheatfield park. Please make sure you lock your doors, turn on your alarm and take all your valuables out of your car. Stay safe! The Perris Police department quickly sent a officer here within 20 minutes, I was impressed with their quick response. The officer told me that stolen cars in Menifee are more common than we would assume and that they get several reports per day.

Best of Luck!

Cars found vandalized in Menifee

by Steve
7/31/2005 11:36:00 PM

I received a report from a "concerned Menifee resident"...
I've got some disturbing news to report.

While driving to church this morning along Ridgemoor Rd. I noticed a car parked in the street along the curb with it's driver side window smashed in, and a pile of glass below on the street. To my surprise a second, third and fourth car were in the same condition. I'm not sure news like this ever makes it to the Press Enterprise. I just thought some other residents would like to be aware. I know crime happens everyday; it's just a little upsetting to when it happens so close to home.

- A concerned Menifee resident.
I saw something similar to this a couple of years ago. A car had been parked for several days along La Ladera St., about where the new park is being built. One day while driving past it, I noticed it's windows were smashed. That hit home to me, because this was in my neighborhood. Actually, Ridgemoor Rd. is close to me also.
