Construction on Antelope and Craig near Holland

by Sarah
5/16/2008 11:01:00 AM

Many of you have been asking about the construction that is being done on Antelope Road and Craig, near Holland.

The work is being performed under contract for Christensen Ranch. They are currently working on installing a sewer line from Garbani Rd. to the project, with about 600 feet left to go (as of 5/14).

After that is completed they will begin putting in the storm drain. The estimated time left for the project is 10-12 weeks according to Bill Schmidt, the on site superintendent.

Explosives Stolen from Construction Site

by Steve
11/29/2006 06:46:00 PM

The Riverside County Sheriff yesterday posted a notice that some blasting agents were stolen from a construction site at teh 25000 block of Newport Rd in Menifee.

Here's an excerpt from the notice...
Upon arrival, deputies learned that unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a temporary permitted storage area located at a construction site.

Taken was a quantity of a blasting agent, a compound mix designed to be used in quarry and construction blasting operations. The compound is stable and does not become volatile until used in combination with other explosives.
And here's a photo of the blasting agent...

Because of the nature of the material, the Sheriff has brought in the fed boys. If you know anything, contact the Sheriff at (951) 940-6200.

Audie Murphy Ranch Is Too Noisy

by Steve
10/25/2006 11:27:00 PM

Here is a note from someone who lives just south Audie Murphy Ranch, and complains the construction work is too noisy...
Hi all, just found out about this web site, very informative! I have a comment/question if anyone wants to contribute. I live just south of the Audie Murphy project between Newport and Holland. It used to be the most peaceful place on earth when we first moved here 14 years ago. My comment is, this is pretty much hell on earth now. Dirt and noise and trucks and traffic! It not no fun living with all of that going on right in my backyard. My question is: does anyone know if there is any developer looking at our property? I will sell in a minute as I know several others around me will too. As it is, we couldn't sell it ourselves because no one wants to live with all of this going on - we can't move even if we want too! Developers can have this area; it is not our peaceful little ranches any longer; I want to get out of here!
Even if you're not a developer, I'm sure that real estate is going to go up in price, once Audie Murphy Ranch completes construction.

Drilling Rock Bolts in Menifee

by Steve
9/26/2006 01:08:00 PM

Another installation of Menifee in the Blogosphere...

1. Phil, who lives in Bermuda Dunes, CA, recently travelled to Menifee to witness some construction work...
Last week at work I got to witness the installation of ten rock bolts into a slope in Menifee, CA. My good friend, and mentor, Roderick was onsite there to monitor the installation. He invited me down to see it. It was amazing. The drill rig that they used I had only seen in my textbooks. I actually got to stand there next to the drill rig and watch it chew through some pretty hard granitics. It was excellent. Tomorrow they are doing the pull-out tests. So I'm headed back to Menifee to check that out.
I'm curious to know where exactly they were doing this.

2. Jordan, who describes herself as originally being from Menifee, but now living in San Marcos, says she likes coming home...
Don't know why I really like coming to Menifee....its boring and I really only talk to one person out here who isn't related to me...but I do love hanging out with my sisters and being able to sleep more then 5 hours a night....well i guess im off to party in san marcos tonight and then back to menifee...i guess i do like coming home....
3. Darryl says he recently moved to Menifee and is happy to say he's gotten his life back on track...
I now live in menifee and work for the resturant BJ's, but I don't know for how long. I have a better business opportunity coming up so I think I may take that. I have moved on from my past and am looking towards the future a lot stonger now that things are looking up. I still have worries coming at me left and right, and shit I still need to work out but overall I believe things and going to work themselves out. I have re-evaluated my life and decisions I have made and am going towards a better sort of life.
I think "restaurant BJ's" is the new BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Temecula.

4. Manda, who teaches a special ed class for the Menifee Unified School District, describes the car accident she got into while driving to work...
As I am stopped in traffic at a red light that just won't change what do you know…."BAM!!!!" I get rear ended!! My head bounces off of the headrest, the rearview mirror falls off of the window, my soda that was half empty in the cup holder spills everywhere and my time to get to the district is ticking away. We pull over to the shoulder. Out walks a young teenage girl, "Oh my gosh, I am soooooo sorry! I just got license. I was not paying attention at all!"
Apparently, Manda now has to wait 2 months to get her paycheck, because the accident caused her to miss the deadline to file her timesheet.

Redevelopment/Improvements

by Todd and Kim Jester
8/29/2005 03:56:00 PM

I'm always curious to see what's happening around town with regards to redevelopment and improvements. The civil engineering firm that I work for (headquartered in Escondido) is currently undergoing an expansion to the Inland Empire. On Sept. 6th we are opening our second office off of Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta. One thing that I've noticed on my numerous trips to the new location is how exceptional Murrieta is in posting signs that let the community know just what improvement is happening and when it's expected to be finished. This is a great opportunity for passers-by to see how their tax dollars are being used.

Is there a place where we can find out what development and improvement projects are currently under way in Menifee/Sun City?

The Menifee Gorilla; An American Dream

by Brian MacStay, Tierra Shores Review Committee
7/16/2005 08:37:00 PM

There is a new scary word for some folks here in Riverside County and other parts of the U.S., eminent domain. Last month the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a ruling allowing the government to conduct a land grab on private land for business development. This means that if your home or business is in the path of the raging urban sprawling bull it could end up being a parking lot for the next Costco.
One has to wonder how the long time locals of Menifee Valley feel about the thousand pound gorilla in their living rooms in the form of a bulldozer bearing down on their farms, dairy's and countryside homes. My understanding is that not long ago Menifee was a "one horse town" so-to-speak, and quite frankly some folks liked it that way. You don't have to live here long before you start hearing how the way things used to be; with the dirt roads, the clean air and that cherished (by some) countrified smell.

I watch the earth-movers excavating farm land, the paving of dirt roads, and sit back in fervent anticipation for the blasting that is sure to take place when the city punches thru the hillside behind Briggs Road to extend Newport Road out to Winchester.

The feeling of excitement for some as the area gives birth to a new era is evident. For others it's a setting sun that will only exist in the memories of the few, and may bring them to pack the wagons and head for quieter pastures.

Many of us are pining for a Starbucks off Newport Road that we can hit before work on the way out to the freeway, or a family restaurant close by that isn't a bar or a drive thru Jack-in-the-Box. My family and I, as many of you are, are used to convenience. Let's face it, I'm a city boy, from a place where a dirt road was what got you to the campground and a small town was place without a Nordstrom. My family and I are here in Menifee for the investment. We chose this area for it's monitorial potential in our home, for it's charm and existing and developing character. I'm a man with a family and a dream, just as the many who lived here before me. My family and I came here to live the American dream of owning our own home. It’s unfortunate that our dream has to be at the expense of another's.
