Special education students prepare for April 5 Field Days

Special education students in Menifee Union School District will compete in their own Special Olympic style competition April 5 in the All-Star Field Day event at Hans Christensen Middle School.

Students have been practicing to compete in six events: Long jump; basketball shootout; throwing a ball overhand; kicking a ball into the goal; hitting a ball; and 20/50/100-yard dashes. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with Opening Ceremonies, with events following through noon. Parents and spectators are invited to attend and cheer on the athletes.

This inaugural event is presented by MUSD and the Special Education Parents Advisory Committee, with special education PE teachers providing leadership. Through sponsorships and parent donations, $6,455 was raised to provide T-shirts and other supplies.
