A Temecula man died in a three-vehicle collision on the 215 Freeway in Murrieta early this morning, authorities said.

The incident took place about 12:42 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release. A 43-year-old man from Temecula was driving a Volkswagen Jetta in the No. 3 southbound lane of the freeway just north of Clinton Keith Road at an undetermined speed. A 33-year-old man from San Diego was driving a Ford F-150 in the No. 2 lane at about 70-75 miles per hour, just to the left of the Jetta, with one adult passenger.

The Jetta veered into the No. 2 lane and collided with the right side of the Ford F-150. The Jetta then swerved back to the right shoulder, where it struck a light pole. The vehicle rolled over and ended up on its wheels on the freeway shoulder. A third vehicle, a Hyundai Kona driven by a 43-year-old female from Murrieta, swerved to avoid the collision and collided with the light pole.

The driver of the Jetta, identified as Sea-Jay Cameron, was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. No one else was injured. According to the CHP, it appears that driving impairment played a role in the collision.

The CHP Temecula Area office is conducting the investigation.
