Driver dies in single-vehicle collision near Menifee border

A 17-year-old male died at the scene of a single-vehicle accident Thursday night in Murrieta, authorities said.

The male, whose identity is being withheld because of his age, was driving northbound on Whitewood Road north of Mapleton Street, just before the Menifee city limits, about 11:11 p.m. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with a brick wall and a tree on the east side of the road, according to a news release from Murrieta Police Department.

Murrieta Police, Murrieta Fire and Rescue, and American Medical Response arrived and found the driver unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cause of the collision is under investigation. Any witnesses who have not been contacted by an investigator is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Anthony Datil at 951-461-6397.
