Menifee Police capture suspect in attempted auto theft

A man faces a felony vehicle theft charge after Menifee Police officers apprehended the suspect in the area today, authorities said.

James Cathers, 34, was seen by witnesses attempting to push a vehicle away from a location in the 29900 block of Berea Road about 11:55 a.m., according to a post on the Menifee PD Facebook page. The suspect fled before officers arrived, but he was quickly located and arrested nearby.

Cathers was found to be on probation for vehicle theft as well. He was later released from the Southwest Detention Center pending an Oct. 9 court date, according to jail records.
