A Menifee man accused of robbery was taken into custody after a police chase that ended with a rollover traffic accident in Oceanside, authorities said.

Sheriff's Deputies identified the suspect as Rollin Wilkerson, 33. According to a news release, Wilkerson assault a victim in the 27000 block of Moonridge Drive, near Hillpointe Drive, just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Wilkerson went through the victim's pockets, stealing his personal property, and left in a vehicle.

Deputies responding to the area soon located Wilkerson's vehicle and attempted an investigative stop, but the suspect failed to yield, leading to a police pursuit. The suspect was pursued south on the 215 Freeway and into San Diego County, which the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.

Wilkerson lost control of his vehicle in a single-vehicle, rollover accident on Highway 76 near El Camino Real in Oceanside. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment prior to booking.

Anyone with additional information is urged to call Investigator Pike at Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station at 951-210-1000.
