Security staff subdues suspect in attempted robbery of Kohl's

Security personnel at Kohl's Department Store in Menifee subdued an armed man attempting to rob the store Friday until police could arrive and take him into custody, authorities said.

The man, who has not been identified, entered the store in the 30200 block of Haun Road about noon and attempted to steal merchandise, said Deputy Mike Vasquez of the Sheriff's Department. Security personnel confronted the suspect and an altercation ensued, with the suspect receiving unspecified injuries.

The suspect was treated at the scene until police arrived. He was then taken to a local hospital for further treatment. He is subject to criminal charges upon his release from the hospital, Vasquez said.

Police vehicles and a forensic vehicle were on scene Friday evening, but only to finish processing the scene, Vasquez said.
