Story updated at 9:30 a.m. with identity of the deceased:

The identity of a motorcyclist who died in a traffic accident May 14 on McCall Boulevard in Menifee has been released by the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

Jonathan Harbin, 26, of Menifee was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which involved two other vehicles at the intersection of McCall Boulevard and Sun City Boulevard in the Sun City section of Menifee.

The Sheriff's Department dispatcher received a call about 2:30 p.m. of the accident, but at least one officer was on scene seconds after it happened. According to a witness, a Sheriff's deputy performed CPR on the male victim for several minutes but he was unresponsive and was dead when emergency personnel arrived.

Deputy Armando Munoz of the Sheriff's Department said it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved. There were no other injuries.

J.R. Reuss was sitting in his car in the parking lot of Wells Fargo bank on the southeast corner of the intersection when he heard a crash and ran to the other side of the center median, where the motorcyclist lay under a pickup truck in the left-turn lane of westbound McCall Boulevard. He said he was not sure of the location of the other vehicle, which was parked on the north side of the street with considerable damage some time later as deputies began their investigation.

Reuss said he and another witness tried to administer aid to the man and the officer then rushed up to perform CPR.

"We were trying to help (the officer)," Reuss said about he and other witness. "We got his helmet off in case they had to do a (tracheotomy) or something. He had no pulse. The officer tried for like 10 minutes giving him CPR and it didn't do any good. He was gone."

Reuss gave his version of the events from behind yellow caution tape as officers measured off distances and took photos of the scene. At 6 p.m., the Coroner had not yet arrived to remove the body, which lay in the street covered by an American flag. It was not clear where the flag came from or who replaced a gray blanket with the flag.

As of 6:30 p.m., McCall Boulevard was still closed between Bradley Road and Winged Foot Drive. The identities of the other drivers have not been released, nor have any details of the accident. The investigation continues.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Community Service Officer Cousins or Officer Berry at the Menifee Police Department at 951-210-1000.

  1. I was on my way home from errands and actually drove by the scene not long after it happened. At that time, I figured the man in the street was deceased. It is shameful the deceased was still in the street until several hours later at 6:00 PM. This is unacceptable, to say the least. Thank you, Menifee 24/7 for having way more information about this accident than the so-called paper of record for our county, which had a terrible preliminary story based on a law enforcement press release!

And it is very sad he was out on the street for that many hours, and yes he is a US Marine recruiter I believe
