One Displaced When Car Crashes Into Apartment

One person sustained minor injuries and another was displaced from her home after a car crashed through an iron fence and into an apartment in Menifee on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Firefighters responded at 3:07 p.m. to the Halter Hillside Apartments in the 28400 block of Encanto Drive. The accident occurred near the back of the complex in a building facing Bavaria Drive, where the street curves heading uphill. According to witnesses, the female driver of the vehicle apparently missed the turn on the curve, crashing through a fence and into an apartment occupied by an adult female.

The vehicle (at left, in a photo provided by Beatriz Coronado-Hein via Facebook) had been removed by the time Menifee 24/7 arrived on scene. The occupant of the apartment was outside and visibly shaken but otherwise unhurt. She asked not to be quoted directly but said she had just walked away from the outside wall toward the kitchen when the car came crashing through the wall and pinned her against a stove.

Fire officials red-tagged the residence because of the extensive damage, including indications that part of the building had been knocked off its foundation. The Red Cross was called to assist with the placement of the resident.

The driver of the vehicle was transported for treatment. According to fire officials, two passengers in the car were not hurt.
